I like origin stories, but I'm not a big fan of kid stories. I hope more time is spent on the adults responding to the stories or the mystery itself. Tonight was MM night with my International penpal, and it served to remind me once more that the mysteries themselves were more "plotty" in earlier seasons. I hate to think that the suffragette story may have played a role in sapping some of the structure from MM. Maybe they should have murdered more suffragettes! I'm with you in that I prefer adult characters, but this is no family feel good story with a zany but loveable priest and a boy up to various hijinks. MJ wrote this episode about how William decided to become a detective, and I've been looking forward to it all season. It won't give me all the backstory I crave, but I hope it delivers on quite a bit. I have a sneaky suspicion most of the backstory is going to be told from adult William's point of view with snippets of him remembering things.

I may have been listening too closely to fan2tvshows whole body language spiel, but I thought the way William was sitting with his foot toward Julia was kind of weird. But his foot away would also be weird. Hmm, maybe sitting like that was just weird, lol.

It looked uncomfortable.

I don't know, it didn't seem off to me...they were sitting as close as they could without touching-it would have been unacceptable for her to sit in his lap while they were entertaining...all the more so given the guest was a priest. That said, I'd love to see a scene with her in his lap when they're alone.

We had a scene with her sitting with Darcy with her legs draped across him how come we can't have anything like that with the love of her life!!!?

He did seem rather uncomfortable and stiff (no snacky not that kind of stiff!!!!)

I think she's made some subtle changes from that original accent(?) she was doing in Season 1 over the years, just as Yannick laid off on the asperger's(?) a bit. I hope she still plays that outside-the-opera-house seductress, though!

I agree - if that's the effect Yannick wanted, he was doing it well. You've come a loooooooong way from High Tide, kid! Also - from the clip I agree the Peter Outerbridge is a terrific priest. I hope I can catch all the in-jokes without having seen the movies! Still suspicious this ep will be low on mystery plot.

Because she was living a useless life of the indolent rich with Darcy (re: Ibsen's Doll's House), while she is an active participant in the world while married to William. I like your scenario about William and/or Julia bringing some love special delivery to the office because one of them has been working too hard...

Seems to be getting good reviews and not just from people on this forum.

I hope she still plays that outside-the-opera-house seductress, though! I've noticed a change in Julia's voice over the seasons, perhaps as Helene got more into the character. She seems to have softened it enormously from S1. In S1 Julia was trying to make her way working alongside policemen in a profession that was dominated by men so she needed to come across as qualified and competent. In her work as a psychiatrist she needs to soften her voice to sound more sympathetic and empathetic to her patients. I don't think Yannick deliberately played William as Aspergers, it just came across that way. I think it's a choice he regretted as it's taken years to transform William into someone that's a little more at ease in the world.
