Now I've finally seen the ep AND read through all the posts. I don't really have anything new to add but would like to say that it was so good to see Julia and Emily in the thick of things and involved in solving the mystery. And for a Jilliam shipper it was great to see that despite the lack of evidence after the honeymoon, the nerds still seem to be in love.
As for George's situation - I think Archibald Brooks was murdered by some third party but George believes he is covering up for Simon. I have no clue where Simon and Edna have dissappeared, though. I cannot wait how this is resolved!
All in all a great season finale, this felt like the MM I fell in love with. Now I just have to learn to cope with my first longer hiatus. Seasons 1-7 were shown pretty much without breaks in Finland and then I could continue straight onto season 8. Any tips for withdrawal symptoms?

We have the new web series coming, so you don't have to withdraw yet. That should keep us going for a few weeks.

We have the new web series coming, so you don't have to withdraw yet. That should keep us going for a few weeks. It seems to be an interactive game rather than a web series. It took me no time at all to get through the last one. The only way to get through is to do marathons. If you start at the beginning and just watch one a day (not very likely if you're like me) you have 114 days worth of viewing before starting again. That should last until the new season, probably next October. Good luck! Last year was my first hiatus as I'd only started watching the previous December. It was the longest summer in my entire life!!

It seems like this was the writer's line of thinking - the William/Julia arc is done, time to move on to the next couple. However, this is not how viewers think. I try not to make huge generalizations about viewers, but I think it's pretty safe to say that viewers en masse get invested in the characters they watch over time. After 7 seasons of emotional investment, that interest doesn't suddenly drop after those characters get married. That would be equating marriage with character death. A marriage should only be a "happy ending" if the show itself is ending. Since the show is called Murdoch Mysteries, everyone expected the show to continue to focus on William Murdoch, even after he was married. Now I'm going to take off my "all viewers" hat and get into what probably would have made the shipper contingent happy. Since the marriage part of William's character, shippers expected to see occasional forensic/trace evidence of it - the token of affection, a kiss to indicate there was still a love life. I also believe female viewers across the board, not just shippers, and perhaps a lot of male ones as well, regarded Julia as a central ensemble character. They did not want to see her replaced by Emily. It's not a matter of putting Julia through more "romantic adventures" with William - it's a matter of finding ways that allow her to work with William to help solve the mysteries because there are a number of viewers who enjoy seeing a "Woman of Action" contributing to solving the mysteries in William's world. It's part of what gives MM's version of historic Toronto a special flavor. You've summed this up perfectly. We don't necessarily want to see W/J's love life but some signs they still care for each other would be nice. We finally got that in TAD. I also like to see both Julia and Emily working alongside the men as important members of the team.

That's the kind of stuff I do anyway.

I just realized last year's hiatus offered a lot more to keep us busy because of all the wedding planning and honeymoon possibilities. Perhaps that web game will be full of awesome, though. Also, the MM fandom universe is appallingly light on assets - but that also means there is plenty of room for creative contribution. There are only a hand full of fics out there right now. Filling this void with reading and writing could keep one busy for a summer.

Finale just shown here in Sydney, what a fabulous episode even though no romance but at least a little affection between Julia and William! I thought it was one of the best of the season with all actors doing a stellar job, the plot having a lot of depth and Julia back to helping in the case! It kept me engaged the whole episode whereas many others this season haven't really done so. I really hope George isn't on the way out, I love his speculations, not really though a fan of he and Emily together though. I think I'll be mainly watching my favourite episodes from seasons 6&7 during this winter (i.e. the ones with Julia and William together unsurprisingly) while waiting for the next season but this episode and of course the wedding, Manhattan, and the incurables will get a rerun of those I've recorded. Regulars on this fan board seem to have built up great friendships, nice to see. Would have love to have been part of the Pub event. Mention a pub to an Australian coupled with one of their favourite shows and we'd be first in line!!! What's to stop you for organizing such an event in Sydney? The owners of "The Derby" have ties to the show...one of them used to be on the lighting crewn and his wife on the make-up team. They are suggesting another pub night for the S9 opener. That would be fun to do. As far as I can tell, there are lots of fans in Sydney! Nothing like throwing you into the deep end sydneyfan...welcome to our happy group. We'll be spending the looooong summer speculating on season 9 and rehashing every episode that has come before. No obsession here. Would never knock back a chance to organise a party but unfortunately Murdoch is only on a pay tv channel called Foxtel here and hotels/ pubs generally don't have the full Foxtel package, generally just the sports channels. Very sports obsessed country! I can't understand why none of our commercial channels haven't picked it up, so much better than the crime shows they do show which rely on guns, violence, car chases etc. I only know one other person that watches it but I'm on a mission to change that!!! I was starting to think I was a tad overly obsessed so good to see I'm not the only one. I also think it's strange that there are hundreds of TV couples that simply don't rate on my radar but I've become invested in one couple as if they are family, I wonder if there has been any psychological study on why??

I somehow completely forgot that in my excitement over TAD. And rewatching old episodes is a must. I'm not so sure that writing fanfic is for me, though, but I really admire the people who can do it and appreciate their stories.

I never thought writing of any kind and particularly fanfic was my thing but I surprised myself and have churned out a few stories. Not had the muse for a few weeks now but hope to get it back soon. Who knows you may just find yourself moved to try it too. It's surprising what MM can do to you!
