Hi all Murdoch buffs out there. Just ready to settle down and watch season 7. I know they,ve done a season 8 and this will be on British tv at some point. i may be a bit premature..... but does anyone know iff they plan to do a season 9? ? to be honest, iff the script writers keep working there magic, they could run this show for many seasons. It has a huge cult following all over the world does it not??? What have you buffs out there?

Everyone has been optimistic about Season 9 from what the show people say, but we've been recently dismayed by the downplaying of the woman of the show - and I think we all have to worry what changing audience numbers could do to MM at any time. The MM powers that be claim the appearance of downplayed women was unintentional and relates to Helene having a bicycle accident. I have an additional, slightly more elaborate theory, but it involves spoilers for Season 8, so I'm not going to go into it. I'll just say that I think they had a particular writing plan that was probably a good idea, but it didn't jive well with Helene's bicycle accident. They need to get Julia back in the lab. #JuliaInLab

The CBC usually makes their renewal announcements all together in April, however, it appears that the production team are anticipating a renewal.

The CBC usually makes their renewal announcements all together in April, however, it appears that the production team are anticipating a renewal. Cheers At the 100th ep cast panel the CBC rep was playing her cards close to her chest but not close enough that you couldn't read between the lines. Short of a major occurence I'm pretty sure there will be a 9th season. Why would CBC cancel it's most popular show? PM said they had scripts left over from this season for the next and Shaftesbury and the studio would have to know sooner than the viewers that there will be another season. It would be unfair to leave them in limbo, especially the studio. The studio needs to know whether to leave the sets up, I'm not sure if they dismantle the indoor sets between seasons but I'm sure they leave the outdoor sets. I'm sure there are contractual agreements with regard to this, they would need to be scouting out a new show if MM wasn't going to be renewed. The studio has said they're planning another open house.

My only worry is what will happen to it's popularity if the MM team screws with the "formula" too much. It seems like they should have played it conservative after the major change of this Season (the wedding). Yet there are other changes that drifted in, accident or not. The altern "domestic personality" of William which is weird when it's his personality that drives a lot of his detective work; the marginalization of/missing women; the watering down of mysteries with B-plots; increasing Disneyfication of style...audience loyalty will only go so far before they start asking: "Is this the same show? What if there's something else I want to watch on a different channel?" I prefer to trust the writers than to catastrophize early, but I do think they could have covered for the eps where Julia was "missing" better, especially since William and Julia were newlyweds and this was the culmination of EIGHT SEASONS!

This is what I'm worried about too. You can't screw with the formula of a popular programme without some backlash and the backlash to missing women has been strong. I don't think people will leave in droves but the ones that only watch for Jilliam may leave if things don't improve soon. Much as I like Jilliam it's not my main focus but it is still a big part of why I watch and I'm not liking the Jilliam I have been seeing lately. I do watch for William but even his character has changed somewhat recently. I don't mind that he's not so dorky as he used to be and that he's obviously contented with marriage but I'm not happy with (I'm assuming) Yannick's portrayal of William at home. It's not the script that's bad, if you take the words as written they'd be fine, it's the goofy characterisation I'm against. This season, other than with about three exceptions, has had a different feel than previous seasons and it's not the show I used to tune in for. That doesn't mean I don't enjoy each episode as I watch it and I will still watch each ep more than once. It's impossible to take in all the nuances in one viewing but this seasons eps haven't had the multiple layers of previous seasons. It's also not the 10% darker we were promised, unless that's still to come. I've also come to the conclusion I like angst....

At the top of the forum under the banner there is a link called "Profile" - then click on the big Edit Profile button to the right. You will see a place to upload your avatar there.

People watch MM for a variety of reasons, but the formula-tinkering (accidental or not) is messing with some of the BIGGIES: shippers, William-fans, and mystery-only fans. Which seems to me to be a very risky and worrisome combo, especially right after a game-changer like the marriage. I haven't been rewatching the eps, either, now that you mention it. I think I would if they were "10% darker" and hooked into a larger saga. The older ones hooked into the saga of "Jilliam" so I was watching for every detail. I don't know what the new saga is yet. I'm waiting for the writers to tell me.

It's also not the 10% darker we were promised, unless that's still to come. I've also come to the conclusion I like angst.... IMHO it's politically correct to deny liking angst - how inhumane to be in favor of suffering! But in the end, angst is what drama is made of, and drama is what we are watching on TV.
