My little MM filming locations project just took a HUGE leap forward.!! I just got off the phone with Maria Fortunato who was in the Making Murdoch/Discover Ontario video. She is the Executive Director for the Hamilton, Halton and Brant Tourism Region. I spent a few minutes looking at their marketing campaigns and focus. Lo and behold, MM filming locations fits under several of their categories so I called her and pitched my MM tourism idea. **heart is still racing**
Maria is a fan of the show but she said she could hear my enthusiasm clearly. She is quite interested in my perspective and ideas. She had not really considered the international following that MM enjoys and with the Pan Am Games coming this summer there is added incentive to entice all those tourists to discover Ontario beyond the games. I'm to send her an email outlining the broad strokes and we could very well be meeting in April to discuss it further.
I am squirming like a puppy I'm so excited!!! How phenomenal would that be?
I have decided to hold off publishing the Super Geeky Spreadsheet for the moment because it lists so many private addresses that have been used for filming in addition to the public ones. I created the spreadsheet originally to keep track of addresses for my mapping project but I kept adding columns as I thought of other things to track that had nothing to do with loctions. If this idea is picked up then the public addresses will be available to all and I can revamp the spreadsheet to hide the private ones.

MM does indeed have me pondering a trip to Ontario...I've been to Vancouver and I honeymooned in Montreal, but I'm now considering fitting in a trip to Toronto this summer! It's just a matter of working out the logistics/dates/etc.

May I suggest that you spawn off a second spreadsheet to post (non-updatable) without those columns? You could name it something different and just leave it to rust until you are ready to spin off a new edition "for public consumption" from your main one. The tourism idea sounds fantastic! In the meantime...still hoping for a map! But maybe the tourism office can produce a bit of an artsy one like Your Village in The Prisoner.

I intend to create a new edition of the spreadsheet to share. I knew there was a reason I hadn't put it up but I didn't know why until today. I'm going into overdrive to produce a working map. Hamilton alone has over 20 public locations. If this takes off there are 3 other regions that would benefit from this approach.

You might mention that I corresponded with the Royal Ontario Museum last October. My suggestion was forwarded to the Exhibitions Department, but I didn't hear anything further.
Here is the text of my inquiry:

When we started this project, this was the map I was thinking of, but perhaps with better pictorial representations of the buildings on it like an amusement park map.

Here is the text of my inquiry: Thanks. Good thinking. I also want to get viewership stats from the US, UK, France and Australia to bolster the international following argument. If anyone on the board in those countries or any other country would be willing to find out that information for me I would be very grateful. You can post it in this thread.

I would suggest you use the Finnish one, too. MM seems to have gotten a strong start there. I wonder how MM does in Asian markets.
