I know what you mean. I had to step away from this thread and just casually look here and there because I was becoming infuriated with the negativity and to be honest, down right rude comments some people are writing. Its beginning to sound like a bunch of whiny children complaining that they didn't get their way. Yes, this is an open forum to discuss our favorite show, but frankly, it is sometimes too unbearable here and some comments are a little too snarky for my liking. I honestly don't even know why Peter Mitchell visits here. All he reads are people telling him how to do his job. Its ok to comment on episodes and vent your feelings, but when you have to dissect every, single detail and are basically telling the writers they can't do their job I find it incredibly annoying and embarrassing. I know I'm not going to be very popular here after saying this, but that is my opinion. Why can't people just calm down and realize its only a tv show? Its ok to be upset or to not like something but please don't be an ass towards to writing team. Again I have to invoke Julia marrying Darcy for when it's "ok" for fans to get mad. The perception of "negativity" and "dissection" is a matter of what you personally care about. I like to think this forum is tolerant of a wide range of views. If I remember correctly, a few people came here because they didn't get any intellectual stimulation from Facebook's constant parade of celebrity-fawning positivity. I'm sure PM has the circumspection to consider a wide range of views, and it can only improve his craft if he does so.

Sometimes the writers do mess up on MM. They don't live in a bubble and viewers will say when they're dissatisfied with certain aspects of the show. Pretending that everything MM does is perfect is silly. There's nothing wrong with voicing opinions on episodes, especially if a poster feels offended by it. There is still more love of MM on this site that there is criticism, so we're all fans.
The board has always been honest about what it thinks and we shouldn't start lying about our thoughts because a show's writer might read the posts. PM is more than welcome here, but he surely knows that he'll sometimes see posts criticizing parts of the show; it's unavoidable.
This is the only MM board I've ever posted on and I'm fine with how it's always been. Not everyone will agree on the same things because these are general episode threads.

This is the only MM board I've ever posted on and I'm fine with how it's always been. Not everyone will agree on the same things because these are general episode threads. PM joined the board at a time when there were a lot of complaints on FB about S8. Whether he'd been here before we'll never know but once he made himself known it was obvious that we were going to vent our frustrations, and he took it well. I admit that I was one of the people both on here and FB that had led the attack (though the FB complaint was not about the show). Peter listened to our complaints and, kudos to him, set things right. My fear if he hadn't listened to at least some of the complaints was that people (shippers in particular) would have just stopped watching. Why would anyone watch a show that they no longer enjoyed? I've stopped watching countless shows when I became disengaged from the storylines and characters. If the ratings dropped because of one less than stellar season then no rebound we could have lost our show for good. I suspect the W/J arc just got lost in the mass of other stories and the suffragist arc and no one really noticed during production. The producers, I'm sure, are more concerned with the individual episodes, so unless someone is deliberately monitoring specific arcs I can see how they would get lost. I suspect they've made a deliberate effort this season to make sure the marriage arc gets attention given how much we've seen in the first four episodes. We don't need to see it every episode, just now and again. However, now Julia is once again working in the morgue I think we'll get lots of W/J moments and I'm happy just to see them working together again. It's what they do best.

I agree most complaints are well-intentioned: they are not made out of mean-spiritedness but out of love for the show. Minority complaints can be just as valid as majority complaints: they bring up things that might not occur to the mainstream audience unless someone points them out. I feel it's important to defend everyone's right to speak.

If I remember correctly, a few people came here because they didn't get any intellectual stimulation from Facebook's constant parade of celebrity-fawning positivity. I'm sure PM has the circumspection to consider a wide range of views, and it can only improve his craft if he does so. Yeah, I'm with Snacky here. I'm done talking about Lillian for now unless someone has something new to bring to the table, but I really don't think it's fair that some things are okay to criticize and be upset about and some aren't. William and Julia's lack of affection last season, Julia's lack of natural participation throughout the last few seasons- both were criticisms that spanned multiple threads. Was that labelled hatred or negativity? I complained a few times on here about James Gillies being used over and over, but I wasn't told I was telling the writers I was better than them, or spewing hatred. I imagine that's because most people agreed with me on these issues. I can't deny it's a little disheartening that genuine concerns about problems that affect and concern groups of people are being dismissed as 'embarrassing' and 'annoying', especially considering the issues being raised hit a little closer to home than an overused fictional serial killer. In any case, I always figured being willing to engage in depth with the show (whether it's to praise aspects you liked, or criticize aspects that didn't sit well with you) means that you're invested, that you care about the show, and isn't that giving the writers credit for being good at their jobs? The fact that I was disappointed means that the entire team has done well enough that I think really highly of the show, enough to be surprised when I feel they do something that they probably shouldn't have. Not that criticism can't be bad- to the point where it is disrespectful, or there's enough of it that you should probably just disengage from the show and find something that makes you happier- but that's not what's going on here from what I've seen. I don't think it's fair to tell people they're being rude just because you don't agree with their criticism, or you're personally tired of hearing it. (in terms of tanhere's comment about wondering why Peter Mitchell visits here at all- I have some complicated feelings about fan/creator dynamics, actually? In that interactions between them, particularly on fan forums and fan spaces, can be harmful for both the fans and the creators. Eh. I'll think about that, and maybe post some more later).

Goodbye Dr GRACE! I don't want to be mean and maybe I'm the only one to say it but... I will NOT miss Dr GRACE. At the beginning, I found the character funny because she made Detective MURDOCH a bit unconfortable but it didn't last for long. Her relationship with George was -according to me- uninteresting. I didn't like it because it was a poor copy of the relationship between the doctor OGDEN and the detective MURDOCH and because there was no chemistry between them. The only good thing was that she encouraged him as constable to show initiative. At the end, when she fell in love with a woman, it sounded false/it rang hollow. And after the death of Lillian MOSS -may she rest in peace! lol-, I was relieved to learn that she still wanted to go to England. And after the death of Dr SLATER -may he rest in peace too-, I was happy to learn that they needed a coroner sooooooooooooooo... Welcome back Dr ODGEN! A good news, don't you think?

The CBC made it easier to wait for the next new episode last night by replaying Double Life. All controversy aside, I really enjoyed this episode....Georgina Reilly got to play a tour de force, showing love, hate, confusion, doubt and resolve, and great tenderness towards all the principal cast, especially George.....this one ranks with my favourites....

Not my favourite ep but I really liked Brackenreid in this. He's mellowed a lot.

We don't get this episode until next week but I'm hoping that Julia will end up back in the morgue. Now that they have been married for a while there doesn't seem much for her to do.

Hodge and I spent the day watching them film Barenaked Ladies. It's a terrific episode and some questions do get answered.

So...I just rewatched this as well, and I don't have any observations to add that haven't already been said. But I do have a complaint...originally, the show said that they had to cut a scene for time...and that this scene was William and Julia discussing the case, and wrapping everything up. Yes, it was annoying that they cut a Jilliam scene, but I'm mostly annoyed that they cut the scene that kind of tied up the entire mystery, and ultimately, isn't this show supposed to be a mystery? I get that the show (for better or worse) cut it for time when it was broadcast, but why didn't they add it back in afterwards? I just watched the Acorn stream and it isn't there-is it there on the dvd's I wonder? If not, that's damned pathetic on their part!
