These covers are beautiful! Do you also do videos? It's hard to find good music for MM. Period or Period-esque music tends to be too slow to keep a video interesting. I love Elise's videos, but the music tends to make me drift off. Other people chose music with a hard rock or country edge - most of the time that just seems wrong for MM. The person who composes the music for MM really got it right: kind of a toy or music box feel with a little cinematic drama - and vigorous pacing inherent in the music itself. I don't listen to much music on the radio, but I get some of the latest hits from my alarm clock in the morning. I haven't heard anything lately that I think would work with period costume clips, though. Ps. I've noticed that songs with a slow start don't work well for vids, because then you end up with a "talking head" clip for a few seconds while the viewer is waiting for both the music AND the video to get started. No unfortunately I don't do videos. I've never had the interest to. I've noticed that with fanvids as well-the slower music ones not working as well. They tend to put me to sleep-especially if there is no dialogue.

They tend to put me to sleep-especially if there is no dialogue. While skimming through my playlists earlier, I noticed that a lot of songs that work well for video in general do have a slow lead in. Perhaps that part of the music track could be cut or edited? Or that part could be used as a title sequence? This has really been bothering me about MM vids since it seems hard to find music that either fits or ironically comments on a period piece in the first place. Youtube vids played a really important role in me getting to know (and getting addicted to) the show since there is no chance of stumbling upon a syndication deluge in the US. I hope the fanvid community will become stronger just for that reason. But I'm a hypocrite: I don't make videos myself, either. I just don't have the patience for repeated rendering. All that said, I still love your still images. Very artistic and mood-setting.

Lol yeah by the time I get through making one I'm usually sick to death of the song I chose, which is a bit unfortunate since I usually use songs I really like.

Going through my old YouTube playlists and trying to remember what I had before so many videos were deleted or made private. T_T I hope there wasn't anything in there that I'll never hear again. MM compatibility is very tricky. The song doesn't necessarily have to have a "period" sound, but it can't evoke a period that's different from MM. For instance, I like Broken Bells "The High Road" - but it evokes the 70s, so it can't be used for people in Victorian costume. I think this is also why metal ballads don't work: they evoke the 80s, even if they were written yesterday. On the other hand something like Pharrell's Happy might work (if it weren't overplayed to death) because it's more about the theme of being happy than the style of the music. Hmm, how about this one by Depeche mode: www.youtube.com/watch?v=XwMVItMKQigNot my favorite Depeche Mode song, but it has those clinky factory hammers in the background, and William fails to communicate a lot. lol my memory is getting a work out. How about this Enya song? www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wfYIMyS_dIIs it my imagination, or do songs from the 80s and 90s work better for videos? The majority of my play list is actually acid lounge-ish, but would not make good videos because they don't cue action.

So here I was in a random cafe, sipping my iced coffee, vaguely aware that the cafe was still playing the same mix-CD featuring 90s pop songs that had playing the last time I had been there...at least FIVE YEARS AGO... When this song came on that described the William/Julia relationship in a wacky sort of way. And it's Michael Jackson. I loathe Michael Jackson. I just watched the MTV vid, and it seems to be set in the late 19th c. I think it's a sign. Y'all be the judge.

Murdoch the musical...if they were both drunk or his ego was more like Brackenreid's from the getgo. I actually played an "urchin" in Annie Get Your Gun when I was around 12. That might make a funny crack vid. I finally bit the bullet and started adding some of the country music MM vids to my Buzzfeed list (inspired by your Brackenreid post). I feel bad leaving those guys out - they are loyal MM fans, and the vids themselves aren't bad. I also figured out the origin of the questionable (to me) music choices: these are Sue Thomas fans, probably from the U.S. midwest/south, transitioning to MM because of Yannick, but retaining the music they used for Sue Thomas vids (and which was appropriate for that sort of TV show).

My ever-expanding computer skills have not yet reached the realm of picking up youtube videos and depositing them here for the edification of all...my current favourite is Kelly Clarkson's "Dark Side" as the perfect soundtrack for an exploration of William and/or Julia's dark places.

Back to dark places, eh? I'm almost tempted to make it but I'm kind of tired of making vids about Jilliam. Also, it's really quite simple to add vids here. First step, copy the url of the vid (select it all and right click to find the command). When you are replying to a post (can't be quick reply) click on the black time marker thing (sorry don't know what it's called) slightly above the text box, (off to the left of the yellow smilie face). Paste the url in the new box that showed up and hit insert video. And voila you are done! I hope that didn't come across as too condescending but I was just trying to explain it fully and I don't know what you already know how to do.
