Jonny actually breaks the fourth wall...I've had similar thoughts about the camera in other episodes. MM does a lot of interesting "stylized" things. It's one of the main things that sets MM apart from historical shows set in the same period. I've been fascinated with this as a reason I find MM especially appealing. Last year I wrote a little manifesto on MM style in response to a review that erroneously called it a "tea and crumpets" cozy. I think aspects of MM qualify as Surrealism. I dubbed the style "Noir Charmante", but I'm waiting for some Media Studies articles on cult TV to do a more professional analysis. MM gets surprisingly little academic attention even though its symbolic/style qualities should invite that kind of consideration. It seems like that entire generation wore themselves out analyzing Buffy. Your little manifesto sounds really interesting. Is it somewhere on this site or someplace else where I could read it? I agree that even if I'm not sure I like a choice, the choices are frequently very interesting. And can I just say how thrilled I was to see evilpete respond to my post in Murdoch Air LOL. Again I was puzzling over directorial choices

I can't link right now, but I believe it's in the General section. I also posted it on Buzzfeed - I bet you can Google it. I just covered the Surrealism aspect since I don't know much about camera work. I might add to it at some point to reference the different colors of William's memories. AIt would be great to have more knowledgeable "style manifestos" out there for any future reviewer who obviously never bothered to watch the show. Eus actually brought it up with Christine Jennings at the Wedding Event - she was apparently not sure this was a good fan exercise, lol. I hope she found it respectful if she read it. I like to think the Multiple Detectives scene in The Artful Detective was a hat tip to me. XD I also appreciate evilpete's visits, and I hope he will answer the historical question I tried to ask him via PM. I don't use Twitter or Facebook. T_T
