An uncooperative witness impedes Murdoch's investigation into a pawnbroker's murder, and Brackenreid faces resistance while looking into the prison death of an old army buddy.

Julia tries to assess the witness.
Brackenreid's storyline will be bigger, for once.

Again, spoiler warning:
Tattiwana Jones from Flashpoint guest stars in this episode. I believe she is the paralyzed witness that Julia has to assess. In the preview after Ladie's Wear aired I'm pretty sure it was her screaming.
Julia also looked pretty scared/stressed, in the brief moments she appeared to be huddling in a corner in the dark with someone covering her with their arms.

Very much liked that episode. Very strong plot and the fact that they made me think that it was two separate stories when in fact it was connected was very clever indeed. Brackenreid didn't have center stage in an episode in a very very long time and I thought he was amazing in it, it showed him with depth, sorrow, anger, determination etc.. just brilliant. We also saw more of Emily in the morgue which was a good thing because lately I have the impression that finding evidences from a dead has taken 3rd or even 4th place. I also liked her little moments with George (maybe that was just me but was he sniffing her hair? cute; she's not my favorite "girlfriend" for George but she's definitely growing on me). And I liked also how he "spoiled" it for her with "the Wizard of Oz". We also saw way more this episode the psychological aspect with the witness literally being "paralysed" with fear and then we could see Julia's expertise and assessment in her new field (even when she has doubts and encounter failure which I thought was very well done and shows that she's just human and trying after all she's not "super doctor" to the rescue that can cure everything). But I have to admit that when she knocked down the "very ugly nurse" I was cheering "YOU GO GIRL!!!", after the archery's scene from last week I know that Julia is my lady hero from 1900s (even if at the end it was still William to the rescue). Overall a great episode and if the rest of them are of that level of quality, season 6 will definitely rank as my favorite

Barbarama-
I too thought it was two different mysteries! It's clever that they tied it together the way they did.
I liked the George/Emily morgue scene where I think he was indeed sniffing Emily's hair. That's George for you. And eggs in the morgue? Classy! xD
It was nice to see Julia more, and doing her phycology too! She seems to be a great doctor of many fields. Not much W/J but I think that will obviously be back sometime.

I liked this episode. It wasn't my fav but it was pretty good. The case(s) was solid and I agree it was nice seeing someone other than George take centre stage this season. Probably the last time an ep was focused on Brax was when his kid was snatched and before that early in the first season. Except maybe the opera ep but I haven't rewatched that one so don't remember if it was centered on him. I'm not sure he was sniffing her hair but rather found himself unsure of what to do with himself so close to her face. Maybe the eggs cover up the smell of the dead? Anyway, I of course loved the dramatic ending scene even if it's rather unbelievable that no one was around to either see the fugly nurse or hear their screams considering there were previously people walking around and that's what scared the girl before. The next ep sounds and looks intriguing but I'm a bit sad cuz we're already down to 4 eps!

PendanticPedestrian-
The dead probably smell like eggs.
Fugly nurse. Best description ever. XD
I know! Time goes so slow waiting for the season to start, and then once it's started, it speeds past. Why!?

It was a good episode. I thought the part at the end where the doors inside the asylum were locked was strange. Wouldn't Julia have the key? Maybe she didn't have it on her at that moment, but why were they locked from the inside? I guess so patients could run out. I loved her hitting the guy with the glass. I couldn't help laughing at the guy in the nurse's outfit, even though he was scary. It was a good episode in terms of both stories and how they tied together. I liked the focus on Thomas and the military, continuing that thread for him this season. We've had usually a few eps that are at least half focused on him a season. In S1 it was Body Double. In S2 it was a big chunk of Mild, Mild West and the thread of his drinking and Margaret in the Temperance League. In S3 it was Rich Boy, Poor Boy. In S4 it was half of Dial M for Murdoch and the running for public office thread. In S5 it was Murdoch at the Opera. But this one did show more of his past, which we don't often get. And some of the emotions that he often represses. George looked like he was sniffing Emily's hair while she worked on the cadaver! It was funny how he was again eating in the morgue. And eggs! Then Emily pulled out the eye which looked like an egg at first. I thought there were a few funny moments. I thought it was funny how Emily wanted a spoiler alert! Maybe it was a nod to the play Wizard of Oz playing now in TO.

Barbara, I agree about Julia's part in the episode in terming of the psychology. It was nice to have that play a significant role.

Indeed, I think that now that psychology/psychiatry is more installed in terms of a new field that can help the investigation we'll see more of that in season 7 maybe? (please please please I want to have the news that it is being renewed like yesterday ) "Fugly Nurse" Pedantic Pedestrian you crack me up every time, Lauren is right that is the best description ever!!!! I think I'll go into panick attack every time I'll see a very hairy woman in a white outfit from now on

To quote Austin Powers, "He's a man, Baby!" I think a S7 is very likely. Beyond that, I'm not so sure. But I do think we'll get a S7.

@barb, better not end up in a European hospital anytime soon then. xD And thank you, I put very little thought into that description. I believe the folks at CBC will not announce whether it's renewed or not until after this season is over. I believe this because I read that somewhere on the internet. But if we do get another, I hope they'll make Julia more part of the team again by creating a psychological profiler spot, and have her watch most of the interrogations and give her opinions on the suspects. I had thought that was what they had intended this season but I guess that's too ahead of its time.

Yeah, I know it won't be official until then, but I think it will happen. I wouldn't be surprised if that's the final season though. I hope Julia will be more integrated in the rest of the episodes. She's been doing that now, but only in a few episodes. If she was actually an employee of the constabulary, she'd profile it in every episode. As it is, they only seem to call on her for that from time-to-time.

As long as the episodes are as strong as this season, why not go for an 8th season? (if it's losing its quality why bother but if not why not? I would actually love for Murdoch Mysteries to pass the 100th episode; that might be asking too much but a girl can dream ) In the meantime, I'm confident there will be a 7th season as most of you and I also hope to see Julia more involved with the cases (although we see that more and more as the episodes unfold this season, but as always I want to see her more!!) @pedantic: "European Hospital" what are you implying my dear ?
