I just thought of something, regarding William and Julia's future. Bill Murdoch will visit Newfoundland and Jake Doyle in today's time and (Lo and behold!) he is going to be the spitting image of William who is his great-great-great-great grandfather. That suggests William went on to have at least one son that was not adopted (in order for him to carry on the family name as well as the uncanny resemblance). At this stage in the game, I can't imagine them having William marry and live happily ever after with anyone other than Julia. Sooooooo, based on those leaps of faith, it seems Julia isn't sterile after all and they have a son together! Plus, I'm sure they adopt one or more children, too.

You're right! He can't be adopted, cause he looks exactly like William. I don't think they have any plans to get rid of/kill Julia, so they must have at least one biological child. And that's pretty exciting!

Nup, this is how I see it unfolding….and many of you are going to hate this idea. William and Julia do get married and have a wildly romantic and tempestuous relationship. They do adopt a boy. However after a number of years Julia dies. William is bereft and believes he will never fall in love again. At the out set of WW1, his old 'friend' Terrence Myers contacts him with a job offer to work for the Government, his invaluable skills are needed in the war effort. With his son enrolled in a prestigious boarding school/college, he decides that he must, for the good of the country. Here he meets another brilliant mind, that of a young woman also working for the government. To William's disbelief he falls in love again, though he is nearing 50 and she is in her late 20's. They are soon married; no messing around this time. Many children follow and it is from one of these children that Bill Murdoch is descended.

Eh; that sounds more like a fanfiction to me. Why would they do something that most of the audience will hate? Also, how are they going to show that in the final episode? They could, but I doubt they'd want to waste a good ten minutes of thee ep. I find it far more likely that the final shot of the final episode will be Julia racing to Murdoch, announcing that she is pregnant. By then, of course, they'll have adopted a child. Remember, William is 40 this season. If there's a season eight- which I suspect- he'll be 41-42. That gives him and Julia- what, seven years together? I seriously doubt that they would end the episode with "Julia died". Or, at least, I hope not. I'd be pretty ticked off, and as would a lot of their fan base, who have been watching for seven or so years.

Let's just call it fanfic then. I'm just not one for neat endings all tied up with a bow.

We already saw that's how MM works. When they thought S5 might be the end they gave W/J a happy ending. So you can basically guarantee it again. Unless one of the actors wants to leave the show before that. It's MM's style to wrap things up. They very rarely leave things without a satisfying ending and when they don't that's usually down to future plot reasons. Nup, this is how I see it unfolding….and many of you are going to hate this idea. William and Julia do get married and have a wildly romantic and tempestuous relationship. They do adopt a boy. However after a number of years Julia dies. William is bereft and believes he will never fall in love again. They are soon married; no messing around this time. Many children follow and it is from one of these children that Bill Murdoch is descended. I would bet money that that will never happen. They won't kill off Julia. When her and William get married they'll be allowed a lifetime together. The writers wouldn't think of doing it another way IMO. They have always held W/J as the couple who will eventually get the happy ending. Any kids William has will be with Julia. And probably adopted. The Republic of Doyle thing is obviously just a homage and isn't giving the MM future away. They already hinted at the W/J happy family future more than once on this show. I doubt that's going to change.

Hi. Kind of behind the eight ball, since we have to wait for season 7 to be broadcast here in the US. Nevertheless, these last posts have certainly got my imagination going. I do agree that when Julia and William finally get together, theirs will be a very passionate relationship. I say this based on the fantasies William has had about Julia. Behind William's reserved exterior lurks a very passionate man, and we know Julia is something of a free spirit. Sparks will indeed fly! However, I cannot even imagine that any other obstacles or disasters would be totally unfair after all they have suffered through. Besides, sometimes we need satisfying endings to the struggles we have endured. Lord knows the fans have struggled. I do hope there will still be challenges for Julia and William--they are good at facing problems together-I just don't want anymore of this gut wrenching agony.
Being a newbie, I have a question. What is the style of the hat Murdoch wears?

He wears a homburg. A very nice one at that.
And - btw - I am having serious MM withdrawals. Does anyone know the date the next ep will air?

Glad know the date. I can watch the "making of" segments on the MMCBC site, but not the episodes themselves. AAAAHHHHH! Ellie

Probably not a S7 question but in what episode did Julia wear the black evening dress that she wears in so many of the publicity pics (including the pic at the top of this page)?
