Hi everyone, sorry I haven't been around. I'm so excited about watching Season 7. I am doing my best, to not read any posts/spoilers about the new season. I hope those of you who have seen it, enjoyed it. I missed the first one last night but it's on tonight again! I will be watching and I am so excited I couldn't wait for Alibi and have been watching online. You have a good series coming, some strong episodes and only one or maybe two I've found as a dud. You also have the advantage of not having to wait 5 weeks for the next episode which is what the Canadian pace viewers are facing now. To everyone who's waited for Alibi, I hope you all enjoy the episodes. It was worth the wait. I can't usually wait but I watch so much already that I thought I would leave Murdoch till we can watch on the big TV

I entered these remarks in my last post in the Murdoch Sting section, but I edited them out. I thought they should be posted here instead, since they relate to present plots and where they might go in the future.
------further In response to wwhitby's post in the Murdoch Sting Board: As to who is writing the letters and sending them with photos to Julia and why. I really really doubt Leslie Garland cares about Darcy's murder so much as he cares about Darcy's money. The obvious consideration is that he sees Julia as an obstacle to inheriting Darcy's estate, which he may feel rightly belongs to him. But another consideration is that he may have positioned himself in Toronto for other nefarious reasons that we aren't even aware of yet. I think there's a bigger picture. For instance, if I recall correctly (without going back right now to watch the cycling episode), George learned only that Leslie was kicked out of university for fighting? I believe that there is more to that story. What was the fight about? Who was he fighting with?
My really wild thought for the day...... what if Leslie is Darcy Garland's adopted brother? And what if somewhere along the line, Leslie learned that his brother by blood is/was James Gillies? I mean if there was such a thing as a "creepy" gene, these guys definitely share it.

On that note, Leslie's real parents/siblings could be any past villain: and that would still give him cause to meet up with Gillies. Oh...Sally Pendrick?

I'm only just watching the third episode but I don't understand what's happening with Julia? So far she appears out of the blue like in the first episode she was conveniently on the ship and then in this one she's watching the moving picture. I'm hoping that we get some interesting stories with her, I really miss her being in the morgue.

So far she appears out of the blue like in the first episode she was conveniently on the ship and then in this one she's watching the moving picture. I'm hoping that we get some interesting stories with her, I really miss her being in the morgue. I also liked Julia better in the morgue, though I also like Dr. Grace's "Addam's Family" style. The turn of the century was an exciting time for psychiatry - theorizing about the brain and nervous system, experimenting with different types of therapy. There were also a lot of misconceptions in play, such as the effect of "hysteria" on women - that was actually alluded to in one episode. Lunatic asylums always provide great ambiance for mysteries. So I think there is a place for psychiatry in MM, and I thought Dr. Roberts was terrific in that role. However, it seems a little "soft science" for Julia. If anything she should be specializing in neurosurgery and challenging phrenology. I also don't like Julia psychoanalyzing William. It was funny in the Ladies Wear episode, but now it's been done. I also didn't buy William's butterfly phobia. I do believe butterflies would make him squeamish and uncomfortable - but not the "phobia" level. I thought Julia's approach to it was patronizing, as well. I'm not sure what Julia should be doing instead, though. At one point she was talking about setting up a women's clinic, and that gave her a platform for pursuing women's issues. If she continues to work for large hospitals, she will keep running into the glass ceiling. She could also partner with that woman that wanted to be a detective in Season 3 and run a private forensics lab that could be utilized by the Pinkertons as well as the constabulary. Anyway - Julia is a "woman of action" and she needs more of an outlet for it.

I would have to agree to disagree on that, I love Julia exactly where she is now. She's at the cutting edge of brand new discoveries, and she's using them to help Murdoch. Julia has always struck me as a pioneer in all things, both personal and medical. Here is a woman that went through medical school and university at a time it was extremely if not impossible, she took it further than that by breaking away from her family and living on her own, working for her own keep, another unheard of thing, especially for women in her class. (She could have become a governess, but that in effect would have put her under the protection of another family's household and far from independent). Then she takes it even further and breaks away from tradition by not giving up work when she married, (married women never worked, it was absolutely taboo,) and yet there is our Julia happily working as she pleases and to put the cherry on top, keeping her name, and teaching the very forbidden not to mention illegal, contraception, Scandalous! To top that all off she breaks with her husband, files for divorce (Shocking!!) and then leaves her medical practice and profession to follow the most unbelievable unaccepted and completely shunned branch of Psychiatry, and again our Julia takes it one step further, she become the worlds first criminal and victim profiler! So no I think she is perfect exactly where she is and kudos' to the writers for making this amazing woman.

She's a great character and she's very useful to the stories in a number of ways. She took charge in the latest episode. And she's a good influence on Emily. I love how Julia isn't afraid to hit people when it's necessary. Emily as well. William loves Julia because she is so independent, smart and modern.

Hmm, now that you put it that way, I have to agree. Psychiatry was cutting edge science at the time - sort of how all the physicists are trying to cross over into neuroscience today. I guess I'd rather not see Julia too invested in "talking cures", which takes her into more gender-feminine "soft sciences". Instead, I would like to see her question the host of Victorian "women's diseases", such as hysteria.

I really like the idea of Julia being a mentor and a bit of an idol to Emily. Usually the complaint is that women in power don't help other women, but I think there's also some failure of younger women failing to respect the experience and hard work of older ones. Emily respects and admires Julia, and she will learn a lot in return. Plus it's great for both Julia and Emily to have a cigar-smoking buddy!

I couldn't help laughing at this week's episode, the spider one. The fly swat was very funny.

Sorry for the blank post:having some trouble with my computer.
I really like how Julia's character is developing and how well Helene Joy pulls it off.
This episode had me riveted to the tv: great writing and I loved the editing that kept us going back and forth between the horror of the island to the "Men with Brooms" story.
So glad they had Julia confide in Emily. I sense a plot between the two of them in an upcoming episode.
