This is, as I said before, one of my favourite episodes.
The issues with the constabulary taking so long to track down Murdoch's whereabouts is pretty interesting.
I should point out that it took about a week (probably closer to two weeks in the 1890s) to steam from Canada to England. By the time the bobbies in Toronto started looking, Murdoch would've been at least halfway across the Pond.

This episode was ruined for me because of my utter lack of interest in Anna Fulford, and my annoyance that Julia's having romantic, sad flashbacks of Murdoch, and Murdoch is gallivanting with said boring Anna.
I liked her voice, though.

My next ep in an en ep a day til season 9!
1. I like this episode too much to remember to note things. I’m half way through and haven’t typed anything yet, lol. I don’t mind Anna so much. She genuinely seems to care about William, she’s not bothered (she seems rather excited by it really) by all the crazy stuff William gets involved with, plus she’s catholic which is nice for William.
2. Loved that it was instinctual for William to use the blackboard. And to go figure out what the heck those men are up to. He could have just ran off and left it all behind but his persistence is definitely ingrained in him.
3. Slorach is a bit of a putz haha.
4. So far everything that Murdoch flashed back to during this episode was a memory. I would definitely think that was a memory of Julia in her undies and not imagined in any way. Which could be why he was so forward in trying to undress Anna. edit: And he only remembered things when he was doing something or saw something similar that reminded him of the memory. He's totes taken Julia's top off prior to this.
5. I saw George wink at Higgins… what are those two up to?! Waiting in between seasons has got me loving the crack ships.

Being the daughter of a Chartered Accountant, this episode has one of my favourite lines.....when Anna asked William if maybe he was an accountant, he said "God, I hope not..." Cracks me up every time.....

I also mark this episode as 'first hug from George, with a pretty startled Murdoch as a result' lol.

Being the daughter of a Chartered Accountant, this episode has one of my favourite lines.....when Anna asked William if maybe he was an accountant, he said "God, I hope not..." Cracks me up every time..... So sad when it turns out William really is kind of a virtuous milquetoast in his regular life (except those rare moments he gets to turn into the Murdochinator). This is why The Murdoch Identity is one of my all time favorite episodes. To me this is who William could really be if all Victorian propriety and social constraints were thrown away. He probably doesn't even realize it himself. But the minute he loses his memory of who he is supposed to be, he becomes a superhero! What I wonder is when Julia first realized this. I don't think she got a chance to see William get physical while she was in the morgue. Most of William's chivalry was purely formal until he hit Darcy, and Julia didn't actually witness that. I'm thinking one of the reasons Julia was so impressed with with William's shows of force in Season 8 is that she hadn't really seen it before.

5. I saw George wink at Higgins… what are those two up to?! Waiting in between seasons has got me loving the crack ships. I have a couple rambling musings trying to figure out why MM doesn't really accumulate a lot of slash pairing fic...which means it doesn't attract a lot of fic period. Slash is by nature underground, so it generates a large fandom. Whatever can take place on TV, happens on TV, and fans don't have to do that for themselves. My first thought is YB attract that kind of fandom because he's happily married and just doesn't project those "available" signals as an actor. I think this is also why he does better on a Victorian show where he's portraying more formal relationships. Julia is William's significant other, so that strikes her off the list. That leaves the supporting characters. George has been the comic sidekick: which meant he didn't really work as the romantic lead for EITHER het or slash fic. Do you see lots of fic devoted to him or Henry? nope. The last episodes of Season 8 might be in the process of converting him, but the George of the first 7 seasons is in my mind. The inspector? Married, and, well...not particularly sexy in my book, lol. That leaves Emily. She's the right age, and I would hope she could capture some lesbian or bi imaginations. This is not my thing, so I don't follow fic for it. I just support the concept from a philosophical/political angle. Anyway, all the shows I've watched that have had massive fandoms had massive fandoms because they had massive slash fandoms. Even Sherlock developed a huge fandom with only 3 episodes at a time. MM has to be admired for managing to have as much of a fandom as it does while having almost no potential to develop this fandom. Haha, I'm sure there are quite a few breathing a sigh of relief for the Snacky pronouncement on that. But this is no joke: I think it's a tide MM really had to fight against in order to build it's fandom, and it still has to keep fighting for it.

I also mark this episode as 'first hug from George, with a pretty startled Murdoch as a result' lol. This is a nice mirror episode for The Great Wall when William worried about just "fitting in". Now he knows he was missed and in fact beloved by people back home while he was missing. Step up in character development.
