I think both are true. William is all for reading about new ideas and machinery, but he's rarely content to leave it at that...he likes to build on and experiment with the information. Hence the Kama Sutra is already packed . I go back in forth on this. Sometimes William seems exceedingly clever. Then sometimes he has that Forrest Gump thing going on. You can never be sure whether he's already studied the Kama Sutra in detail (curious mind in action) or whether Julia is going to have to slip a bookmarked copy under his pillow. She'll have to bring it up but he'll be very happy to experiment.

It's such a cheesy pass it's almost like he's trying too hard. And I think he means "breeding" children after marriage. Which Julia underscores with the word "husbandry".

It was a VERY risque conversation and neither one of them backed away from it. Virgin William would have blushed for sure. Let us not forget either that it was William who started the exchange and the look on his face says he knew exactly where it would go.

I would love to hear Julia explaining this self-knowledge to William . I completely agree with you about the West Wing parallel. As I recall, Abigail Bartlett was also a doctor.... I was hoping this was a secret scene after Murdoch in Ladies Wear. Actually this would make some pretty fun fic - it might even be doable on TV. Julia would throw out some symbolism, William would have to puzzle out what it means~ This sounds like a fic only you could write. Meaning, that you totes should.

Why do I suspect that William is one of those men who think all pregnant women are incredibly hot?

Sure, he may have been thinking of babies, but he was more intrigued with how she might get that way.

I was leaning that way myself until this most recent episode. I'm back at virgin. Why else would he be that freaked at a brothel when he's been comfortable in them before? Still, I think the show is trying to play it both ways.

I don't think that opinion goes beyond her, but I don't think he's of the opinion that pregnant women should remain indoors for the duration.

Let us not forget either that it was William who started the exchange and the look on his face says he knew exactly where it would go. Speaking in tongues-what a wonderful way of putting it. That's exactly what they were doing-couching it in animal husbandry just made the conversation polite enough-but only just. It was totally William's way of letting Julia know that he wanted to do unspeakable things to her. Julia, in turn, acknowledged it and reciprocated those feelings by furthering the discussion. If this conversation had gone over like a lead balloon, he could always have saved face by saying he was just speaking about eugenics and animal husbandry. I don't know that it convinces me he wasn't a virgin, but it definitely tells me that he was deriving base pleasure from scientific readings. Definitely a perv!
