Hi All--
Great to find the forums and the wiki! I've been binge-watching MM, enjoying the comedy and shipper story arcs as much or even more than the mysteries. A question: I've been using Amazon instant video to see the show--it stops with season 6. Netflix only goes to season 3. Is there anywhere I can watch season 7 online? I live on the US east coast, so I don't have access to CBC.
Thanks for any help!
Best,
Jeff

Dang :-( Well maybe Amazon or one of the other pay services will catch up. I doubt they will any time soon: someone said it would be Fall before Amazon even got the DVDs. Because the U.S. has been so terrible about picking up MM for distribution, I indulge in some not-so-legal viewing myself. However, I also feel strongly about artists and producers being able to earn a living from their work, so I do buy the DVDs, and I try to promote better distribution in the U.S. on their behalf. I really want a Station House 4 shirt, but I can't afford the one I want right now. T_T Yannick Bisson feels pretty strongly about the matter: www.actra.ca/main/press-releases/2010/11/1866/On the other hand, illegal viewing could actually benefit the show in terms of initial audience building. That "fan base" is what then goes out and buys products like DVDs, t-shirts, and convention paraphernalia. I read somewhere that in the book publishing world, genre ebooks actually promote the sales of paperbacks. The ebooks serve as a sort of test-ride, I guess. Anyway, it's a complex moral decision. Detective Murdoch would definitely uphold the Law, but there are lots of mitigating circumstances.

It sucks that they make people go through yet another "digital distributor", though. As an American, I really hate using my credit card a lot of separate little places on the Internet, and it's one of the things that inhibited me from buying that Station House 4 t-shirt. Even though Amazon is an evil monopoly, I'm more likely to buy from them just because they are an evil monopoly. I've bought a lot of stuff with them over the years. I can keep my credit card info in one place but buy just about anything I need. I'm not offering a solution to this particular problem: I'm not in favor of further empowering Amazon as a super-monopoly. Just observing that this is a digital age problem from the consumer point of view: too many separate points of sale, without the same trust-reinforcement mechanisms (being able to run down the street and grab a police officer) that you have for bricks-and-mortar businesses.

Yep, I just checked, Season 7 is there!
Thank you for delivering the good news to the Facebook Deprived!
At 5 bucks a month it's a good deal if you watch other series, but it would be duplicate if Netflix would catch up to Season 7. (Most Americans would primarily have Netflix, but some don't. I don't.)
Too bad my Mom doesn't have the Internet at home. :/

Hey, lovemondays, thanks for the great tip! I'm going to go check it out. Actually, getting season six from Amazon Instant video cost me around $47.00, pretty hefty! It's less than half that for Lost Girl, another series I like alot. And thanks snacky for your great replies!

I think Acorn is a better deal, because you get access to all their TV shows for the subscription price. For that money you should be getting your own copies (DVDs). Anyway, I'm so glad to hear there's a legal option for Americans now. It's very hard to spread the gospel about MM if we can't even catch up to the current season and be in on the "buzz" as it happens. Once you're done binge watching, you will be ready for the Twitter follow-along during Season 8!

I'm paying just a few dollars more than that for the Season 6 DVD's, that are FINALLY being released in 2 days.

Very much looking forward to season 8 now! I just finished "A Study in Sherlock"--brilliant the way the writers have used what we in literature biz call "the author function" to explain Conan-Doyle's re-animation of Sherlock!

My favorite line is when "Sherlock" proposes he's the one that created Arthor Conan Doyle! XD I never thought of that episode as an exercise an literary theory, much less as a wry reference to Foucault - thanks for that!
