Yippee...boats, barbeques and bonfires!!!
For our non-Canadian friends, Canada Day represents the signing of the Confederation Act in 1867 which joined Quebec, Ontario, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia as a country. I thought it apropos to mention it given William's origins!

Happy Canada Day!
As I've already mentioned, my folks spent 12 summers in NB, not too far from the Maine border. They were, in fact, so close, that both sides had parties for the Canada Day and 4th of July holidays. It ended up being a solid week of celebrating. It's one of the lovely things about the relationship between our two countries. We have so much in common.

You'd think there would be more episodes related to conspiracy theories to undermine the relatively new union.

My grandparents and ancestors on my Mom's side are from Canada, going back to the French explorers and Abenaki natives. She's had an avid interest in this side of the family and finally did manage to visit Canada on a group tour after she retires. This is what actually attracted to MM when I first saw it on TV! I heard the word "Toronto", vaguely remembered that was in Canada, and took a closer look to see if this would be a good gift for my Mom. It turned out to be a great gift for her. It turned out I liked it even more!!! Moreover, it piqued my interest in Canada, as well. Now I'd like to take a trip there when my health is better. *hugs Canada*

We're right on the lake so we can see oodles of fireworks going off every night. Snacky, we've got marshmallows, s'mores, hot dogs and mosquitoes to accompany our bonfire. My brother in law is a pyromaniac so it's really fun. The only thing we don't have is a guitar for a sing-a-long...good thing cuz this crowd is pretty tone deaf!

Waaaaaaa, I miss those family outings - we used to do stuff like that all the time when I was young. Even the mosquitoes. T_T

I was going to go join in on some festivities with my friend (food included), but then my parents decided to cut my plans because they don't trust me out at night.

You wild child! My guess is you'll 'go to bed' early and sneak out the window. Slap...I did not just say that!

Not much, actually.
I mean - I could've just escaped, but ... eh. It didn't seem worth it yet. I want to save my "last straw" for something of real value.

And it'd be hard to sneak out. I wouldn't be much use running barefoot (which is highly uncomfortable), and in order to get my boots (running shoes are too mainstream), I'd have to somehow get downstairs. My parents don't leave the downstairs until 11 PM at the earliest, and even if they were asleep, it'd be hard to sneak by my grandparents (who are visiting for awhile), since they're insomniacs who never sleep.
If I did manage to breach the outside, it'd be no use without money and transport. My money is in my wallet which happens to be back upstairs, in a metal box sort of thing in the far room, where the floorboards squeak without cession.
And if I did manage to get there, most of the area would've already cleared (including my friends), so in the end ...
... it wasn't worth it.

My friend Tony sent me a picture of things I missed out on. Not much, apparently. Caroline had a lot more to say.
