Would that eeeevil stalker be your Mom, come to visit? No it's a friend from another context. I just told him I was hanging out here, and he registered. And took one of my icons, hahahaha. Anyway, trying to draw him into my MM web now. Ps. Mom comes on Wednesday. She doesn't even have a computer at home.

If only Ovation had you working on their promotions team...it would be "Murdoch is the New Black". Sigh.

As I've said MANY times, the show doesn't have a hope with it's current title. It's embarrassing, it's too British and it's too pansy to attract the real mystery/true crime set. It also makes it harder for people who are interested to link up with fansites like this one.

All my contempt it directed at "The Artful Detective". I still don't understand what Ovation is doing. They aren't promoting "The Artful Detective" at all, beyond those 3 embarrassing YouTube videos, as far as I know.

We don't get Ovation here (and our cable package is huge). I've only seen the ads online and they are so disjointed and misleading that even a rabid fan like me is confused. How the heck is that supposed to attract viewers?

How the heck is that supposed to attract viewers? They seem to be a very small channel on a shoe string budget. They only exist on large cable packages, waaaaay up in the high numbers where no one channel surfs. >.> You would have to be desperately deliberately looking for Murdoch Mysteries to find it there.

Small networks can do amazing things with promotion. Look at PBS with Downton Abbey. I'm thinking that PBS might be better for MM. Unfortunately, "The Artful Detective" grrrr, is stuck on Ovation. Maybe if they paid CC for one of her vids they'd attract a bigger audience.

Maybe if they paid CC for one of her vids they'd attract a bigger audience. PBS is like CBC - they are supported by government funding, private donations, and even some commercials now. While they don't heve the resources of the big networks and their media empires, they do have more power to promote stuff than Ovation. Downton Abbey is an interesting case. Like Sherlock, it was popular *in the US* before it was picked up by PBS. I'm very curious how that happened since it could be a model for MM. Who noticed and promoted it? I do suspect part of it was inclusion of gay characters I have gay friends who always find and support shows with gay characters, and they were the ones who introduced me to Downton Abbey. I suspect Sherlock Holmes benefited from a mix of three factors: Cumberbatch in the Star Trek movie, Sherlock Holmes movies and recognition of the character, and of course the whole Sherlock/Watson thing. Still, the fact Sherlock managed to get so much traction and MM gets NONE drives me crackers because Sherlock is only THREE episodes, and the quality is patchy at best ( also imho Benedict Cumberbatch is not that cute), while MM delivers high quality for many more episodes, for many more seasons: so much more squee for time invested! I just don't understand how it missed it's audience somehow.

"Sherlock" is a very identifiable title/character/genre. The network doesn't have to be very clever promoting the show other than to get the name out there. MM doesn't have that automatic cache. I'm choosing to believe that MM will be picked up by somewhat better network but I think you are on the right track by working very hard on developing a grassroots fanbase in the U.S.

That creates an expectation of a staid, slow-paced British mystery, and so people won't be inclined to look any further. :/ This is why it would be good to get those Tumblr pics or the YT videos out there somehow so people can get a quick glance at the show and realize that we're not talking about one of those PBS mysteries here. Not having much luck with Buzzfeed, though. Any other suggestions?

All my contempt it directed at "The Artful Detective". This is what I think Ovation is projecting with that STUPID title: This is "The Artful Detective"...YIKES! I've also discovered the true reason why "The Artful Detective" isn't sinking in with the American public... HE'S NOT WEARING HIS HOMBURG!!! The show is doomed as is ! Mystery solved. My inner Murdoch has triumphed.
