Cuz there's a ton of different weddings perhaps? Peter Mitchell's comment on the wedding invite posting in FB is that it looks like a bait and switch to him. hah! Peter Mitchell's trolling.

I just had another thought about William "dealing" with Leslie and "law of the jungle" William - at least in front of Julia.
Julia turned down William's proposal because she didn't have faith that he could deal with Gillies. Instead she feared for his safety and tried to protect him. William had to convince her that they were strong enough to stand up to Gillies.
I think William realized that Julia has mainly seen him as Gentleman!William or quietly investigating cases like a scientist in the office. His interrogation style is more clever than forceful. At most he's firm. The last time Julia saw Action!William (running after Gillies), it almost cost him his life.
At any rate, I think William felt he needed to show Julia that he could take care of himself as well as her, and that all this time he has been wearing the badge on the street. Perhaps it had been a mistake to protect her from all that.

But I'm also not going to discount the fact that his testosterone levels have got to be through the roof with all the fighting he's been doing and his adherence to the law of the jungle. Which isn't hot at all.

Wow mrsbrisby, I never thought of this. Mama Garland in the works! Your theory has a lot of merit and I am inclined to think that it will turn out to be the case. I have often wondered why no mention of Mr and Mrs Garland Snr. even through conversations even though I believe they are both alive. My thoughts stayed with Leslie but even then I could tell that there was something beyond grief driving his anger. He is firmly focused on Julia and implies that she betrayed Darcy and therefore his family and Julia did not show remorse for what happened. So that means it was all intentional on Julia’s part. I couldn’t quite understand that. Even if he was still hurting from the loss of his brother and came to Toronto for vengeance, he soon met Emily and got involved. That was enough to distract a young soul long enough for his initial pain to subside but that wasn’t the case. If mama Garland is the wind beneath his wings, then he is not going away. Mama won’t stop until she gets the justice she feels she deserves for her son, Darcy. Even if Julia marries, she will keep going until her little boy Leslie, dies in the process. Well, well, this is interesting. It only goes to reinforce my fear of disaster looming. Honestly, I hope none of this happens because that just seems a little too soap operaish. I want Jilliam as subtle subtext, not as the main plot line. Yes, this could get very soap operaish if they let it but I could not think of another reason Leslie showed up intent on making trouble again. Either he is really twisted or something else is compelling him to behave this way and I thought of dear old Mom. Her interference might also account for Darcy's complete about-face on the divorce. He really was an easy going guy and he did move to Toronto for Julia's sake, which did not please the old girl one bit and I think it was her influence on him that him to turn into a perfect ass. Why did he come to Julia's office? He was angry with her, yes, but his accusatory tone sounded a little desperate to me and he seemed afraid of the future. He ran from William because he is basically a coward, but the smiling smart ass that was Leslie was nowhere in sight. The boy was shaken to the core by something.

Leslie was shaken to the core, by Jungle!William. He's always seen William as the mild mannered gentleman/detective before, this was the first time he'd seen him as a tough guy and as Julia said, most surprising and more than a little impressive. Certainly surprised and impressed Leslie but not in the way it did Julia! He was blathering in the end which proves what a coward he really is. He obviously thought he could intimidate Julia again, if he'd known William would turn up he would never have had the courage to go to her office. He truly is a piss ant.

Which isn't hot at all.Being a curious fellow, I think he became very intrigued by Chinatown after the Great Wall and has been experimenting a little too much with the ginseng. In PM I was also talking to Talbotrail about the influence Britain's adminstration of India, and the general "Great Game" in the East had on Western philosophy and intellectual life. One influence that seems boring on the outside but probably can't be underestimated is the effect the discovery of profound Indian philosophy had on comparative mythology...which led to comparative Biblical criticism, which, in combination with geological discoveries and Darwinian theory, led to historicizing the Bible: in sum, it was the standing position for the secular world view. There was a HUGE passion for studying India - especially in Germany (the academic flagship for theoretical physics and science in general). Anyway, I had a thought that William has been investigating some oriental methods of enhancing his focus and energy. It also seems he has a few - as George would say - "moves". And this is probably just his Sunday evening armchair reading. With his "special tea" and some special exercises before bed. Which isn't hot at all.

While Darcy was the "perfect" brother who got his medical degree and climbed high in society, Leslie was the slacker who got kicked out of school, ran around with girls, and practiced new-fangled "art" photography. He got a second chance to take some classes - which his parents probably paid for, and his grades probably weren't high. He probably got his job through connections, not particular merit. He's lived by entitlement his entire life. But that entitlement only works as long as he has a "good name" in society and people recommend him. If he gets on the bad side of society, and his parents have had enough of him, he will have no choice but to become an underground lawyer. Or he will end up a bum on the streets.

Have you noticed William just smiles when anyone brings up the dallying with him? It's like a defense mechanism that kicks in - perhaps part of the social facade of always smiling to authority - even though he must know that he's screwed this up before. I so think he has a thing for aggressive women, though I think he might have some Catholic-indoctrinated conflicts over that. But that doesn't have to be threat to his manhood in other aspects of his life, which is one of the things I like about his character. Nope, if it's what he wants and likes, it's not bad. Julia's not mistreating him (unlike Felicity in the RoD episode I just saw. Sally Pendrick much?), and William is man enough to have walked away if it was something he didn't want. I don't think him weak-he's just lower key than Julia. So, I'm rewatching season 6 right now, and I've noticed more evidence of Julia protecting William. She won't name him as co-respondent in the divorce because she wants to protect his name, character, and career. He argues with her, and she refuses. She's insistent to bear the scandal and not drag him into it all by herself, because she knows how important character is to him , and she won't see his tarnished. Of course, he is involved, and finally forces the matter by booking a room at the Queen's Hotel under both their names. William's gestures are more classically romantic, chivalrous, swashbuckling and sweeping-we can't help but notice them. Julia's are quieter and lower key-primarily, she won't stand for his good name to be ruined, and defends it through quiet actions and small gestures. She can't bear to hear ill spoken of him from anyone.

This is why I think he's also a spoiled brat (as well as a pissant ). I bet that this is the first time he hasn't gotten his way and this whole affair is temper tantrum of sorts. Grow up, Leslie-you're not a child anymore. You can't always get your way. I won't be surprised if he does show back up, but I think jungle!William and the threat of prison may be enough to scare him off for good. His return may just be a red herring to keep us on our toes, it may not. It remains to be seen.

I'll lay 30% odds of him actually trying to do the right thing at the last minute, though. William may even try to help him, as grumpy as that makes him. But its too late. Spoiled brat karma is spoiled brat karma.

She was afraid to share the "Gillies" letters with William because she was afraid they would get him killed. But this doesn't mean Julia isn't selfish in the small things. That remains to be seen, lol.

That remains to be seen, lol. I'm hardly a devotee of Ayn Rand, but I wholeheartedly agree with her assumption that we're all selfish/greedy and that this isn't a bad thing. Julia's desire to go after what she wants is definitely selfish and not at all what a good woman should be doing-it's one of the things we love, and yet we seem to slam for her it as well. It adds a bit of depth to the show. William, selfless to the point of where he would literally die for Julia, is selfish too. Case in point, her bargained with Darcy to get her back to Toronto, and not just accept that she wanted to start anew with her husband in a different city. He refused to let her leave his life, and ultimately caused problems for her as well. He also didn't want her to go to Buffalo in the first place, even though that was a better move for her career-he wanted her to remain where she was. Love is equal parts selfishness and selflessness. It's awesome!

He also didn't want her to go to Buffalo in the first place, even though that was a better move for her career-he wanted her to remain where she was. This is a good point. William wouldn't have moved to Buffalo. Would we have called him selfish? Instead we would have defended him on the basis of his "family" being in Toronto and William being such a homebody. It takes two to tango. By little things, I meant super little things: taking the last slice of pie, taking all the hot water in the bathroom, hogging the covers in bed. William is going to have to be vigilant to not let her get away with it! While I agree the first impulse of humans is to be selfish, I hope the second is to be socially cooperative. I must confess to hating Ayn Rand the middle class economy destroying horse she rode in on.
