I don't really think they will either. They want the 100th episode to be something special. Yes, making it all about the wedding is kow-towing to the shipper audience. There is a part of me that actually wishes it was the William backstory ep so the significant numbers of non-shipper fans could get excited too. The upside of having the wedding done is, as you've said, the writers can get back to giving us kiss-ass, clever murder mysteries that satisfy the whole fan base. Yesterday's events in Ottawa were a kick in the teeth. Last week a Canadian rammed 2 servicemen with his car near Montreal and one of them died. It has shaken us up for sure. On the radio this morning they were talking about how all the outpouring of concern and sympathy on social media has made this vast country feel like a close knit community. That's a very good thing but it shouldn't take a tragedy to make it happen. Apparently there was a terrific FB post from an American who likened the US-Canada relationship to a dysfunctional family...we can squabble and chest thump at each other but when push comes to shove we've always got each other's back. Well Americans are good with a pat on the back...but substantial help in a crisis...? Interesting point about making the 100th ep "special for everyone" instead of the writers just throwing up their hands and kowtowing to the shipper audience. In one of the articles I linked in the other post Peter Mitchell confessed the writers had sort of copped out on the issue by dividing the audience into 4 factions that "couldn't all be pleased". Even though I love romancing William and Julia and I love their sweet moments on the show - I do like to see them embedded in an actual story rather than shippiness for shippiness sake. I hate blatant fan service (unless it's kind of "meta" fan trolling and it's done well, like I think Yannick did in Glory Days). I think hijacking the show for shippy scenes will wreck it - and that's bad for EVERYONE. More than a few shippers are acting in bad faith, too: they openly express they show SHOULD end after the relationship is wrapped up because then it has "run it's course", etc. Well, not for people who aren't watching for the relationship! Anyway, I appreciate how delicately the writers' have to maneuver once they've chosen a relationship as an arc device. They are going to have to be geniuses to come up with a Wedding of the (Previous) Century that doesn't alienate non-shipper fans who already feel relationship fan service has been rubbed in their faces too much already. I'm interested to see if they attempted to this or if they just said: "Frak it, we can't please everybody (as Peter Mitchell pointed out)" and just focused completely on delivering a shipperfest, since this is the only wedding they are ever going to get.

A few weeks ago, I would have been fine with the implication of them running off to marry quietly-but after they've teased it and built it up as they have-my expectations are high-and I'm going to believe that MM will deliver (remember they've invited several hundred shippers to attend a viewing and meet and greet afterwards) I’ve heard a lot of talk lately about this being shipper invitation. I am seriously thinking of skipping this event as it’s not going to be much fun being in a room full of shippers and probably feeling like you are the only one there not invited.

Was going to pick some up today (noted Trader Joes had nice fluffy ones and there are also many bakeries in town), but then I realized the wedding is 2 weeks off, and I will just end up with hockey pucks if I buy now. Le sigh. I didn't realize you could get crumpets in the US, they're not that easy to come by here, not all stores have them. I can't say I've ever seen fluffy crumpets, are you sure that's what you're seeing? Absolutely. I did live in England for a year as well. Crumpets wouldn't be available in average parts of the U.S., but they are easily available in the "foodie" areas like the San Francisco, Bay Area. Behold, crumpets: www.yelp.com/biz/crown-and-crumpet-tea-stop-cafe-san-franciscoThere were actually a lot of results on Yelp for tea houses, and the cheap ones are available in all grocery stores near me.

I had thought that the 100th episode was a milestone for them and deserved to be marked. It’s their achievement and we would all have been happy to celebrate with them. It’s like having a birthday party and inviting your friends and family to celebrate with you. The birthday is still yours but everyone has a good time.

That's what they said Fallenbelle, I found a copy of the preview on YouTube and it was a lot clearer. The one thing that keeps me hoping we are going to see the wedding we want it that Maureen Jennings said the 100th episode would be special and we'd like it. She may troll but she's not in the same league as the writers. So Julia trolls William into thinking they are just going to do a simple wedding at last, she throws open the doors, and SURPRISE they are suddenly in the church and all their friends are there and BY THE POWERS OF THE MAGIC HOMBURG Julia is wearing not just a wedding dress but a gorgeous mod one, and a dashing hair piece instead a big poofy veil!

A crumpet is like an English muffin but they taste better, IMHO. But if you buy the cheap ones, they can get rubbery. I'd much rather have a scone or some Chelsea bun, truth be told. Crumpets do get rubbery. Clearly I've only ever had the cheap, grocery store type. . My grandfather was a just-off-the-boat Brit and he disliked crumpets but oh my he was awesome with a tea-biscuit! I am a scones girl myself. I need a lot more than tea to down a crumpet.

Scones are too too dry - American biscuits with butter rule! Actually I think a fresh crumpet, toasted on a griddle, with a lot of butter, is quite yummy. *misses England* But I miss those caramel shortbread thingies more.

Side note, I've seen quite a few pieces on the Canadian response to the events in Ottawa yesterday, and they've been very positive. Nice work, there. I was in San Francisco all day yesterday and totally missed the news. I apologize if I seemed obtuse and just rambled on about my second shot at Absinthe (the restaurant).

The bakery ones look quite fluffy to me. At least in comparison to those ones that come 6 to a bag in the grocery store.

Vaguely related:
I thought of something funny yesterday, but I'm not quite sure if I can make it work. I need to be more familiar with the neighborhoods of Toronto to do it.
Could someone list here or YM me with a list of:
1) The most posh neighborhoods/streets in Toronto (where Julia might want to live)
2) The name of the neighborhood/section where William currently lives.
3) The neighborhoods covered by Station House 4
4) If possible, "discount" areas or suburbs where William might consider building a house.
Number 1 is the most important - I need as many specific names as possible. Please help!

I would try that if I didn't have such terrible allergies to butter, cheese and such. Besides, if you have to throw them in frustration, scones would make a much harder impact! .

Aw. Yeah, that's about how I feel at the moment . I think you will find a lot of shippers appreciate that the show itself has to exist to support the shipping arc. Meanwhile...here's a non-ship Glory Days topic to discuss: murdochmysteriesfans.proboards.com/post/17450/thread
