Hey didn't you vote for that solution a few posts ago? Yep but I don't think the writers would go for it ... unfortunately! But such a convenient way to get a do over! At what point would you want the shower to start? Did William slip in the shower and hit his head or something?

Yep but I don't think the writers would go for it ... unfortunately! If they do this, does that mean we get William in a shower scene? I think it would have to be a bathtub scene....

If they do this, does that mean we get William in a shower scene? I think it would have to be a bathtub scene.... What, you don't think William can invent a shower? "William, what on earth..." "Julia, it's an attachment for the bath. If you desire to clean yourself, but are short on time, this will allow you to quickly perform you ablutions and be on your way. Think of all the time it can save!" "I see. What are you going to call it?" " I believe I'll call it the douching device. It's after the French term douche meaning to spray with water." "I see. Are you sure about the name? Also, we might need to go looking for another place to live sooner than we thought-we may be quickly coming upon the time when we've overstayed our welcome here at the hotel."

Notwithstanding William's ability to invent douchery, I think the shower had already been invented...?

Yes, it's almost comic how we worried over how the writers would keep William and Julia apart, and the solution was just to not include Julia in any scenes. But it will be impossible for fans to forget - even new fans - because in the process of binge watching, the "honeymoon" will ALWAYS be followed by this weird period without Julia. That opportunity has forever been screwed up through lack of good "shipper glasses" on writer/producer part. It's really a shame after the wedding was pulled off in such a great way. Maybe the writers will do something to back 'splain the whole thing so it makes more sense, though. Doubt that, I don't think PM thinks anything was wrong with the way they handled it. Perhaps it's part of professionalism in that field to always be super confident about what they did. But on this point - wrong.*buzzer sound*

The distance is fine if they plan on doing something with it.

I keep reading comments by fans stating that TPTB should watch the early seasons and get back to basics, mysteries, etc. So out of curiosity I just checked something out. (I realize IMDb is not the definitive, go-to place for true results but it had the info I was interested in.) In IMDb, MM fans have rated all episodes from S 1-8 (save a few recent episodes). Of the top 20 episodes rated ...... a whopping 13 are from seasons 6, 7, 8 In the top 10 of those top 20 episodes ... 6 are from seasons 6,7,8. If seasons 1-5 are thought to be the gold standard for MM as a series, then its not being reflected in those fan ratings. Whatever the reasons for those results, it's clear that we fans are sending mixed messages !!!

Whatever the reasons for those results, it's clear that we fans are sending mixed messages !!! I think you're right about the mixed messages. I'm sure if you look at the episodes that are rated the highest (and I haven't looked) you'll find they're probably the most Jilliam centred ones, perhaps with the exception of What Lies Buried in S8. If that's the case then it has nothing to do with the quality of the episode. The earlier seasons had great storylines but with the exception of TGM and SoG weren't particularly strong on Jilliam. There were several good scenes but the episodes didn't revolve around the relationship. In S6&7 particularly, there were several episodes where the relationship, or at least the two characters working together, were central to the plot. Shame TPTB aren't taking notice of the types of eps that fans rate highly and include what makes them popular with the standard of storyline from S1-4. I'm amazed that some people feel that S8 is the best yet. I feel somewhat betrayed, we were promised romance after marriage, darker stories and changes. All we got were changes and not for the better.

This is the first I've ever heard of them.

All we got were changes and not for the better. ;)Yes, you're right - especially for the #1...Death of Dr Ogden.Yes!!! I'm sure they are hearing what everybody says but as fans, we're all over the map!! PM has mentioned it before so nothing new...they have the mystery-purists and the steampunk set and the folks watching the relationships develop and the history buffs, etc. Trying to please us all is nothing short of heroic on their part but perhaps it's the safest route to take. Rather than give it all to one fan group, each season becomes a selection of episodes that somewhere along the line will work for each group. Of course that approach can also blow up in your face if no one feels they got much of what they came for. Personally, I'm ok with this season. Not every episode has hit a nerve with me but I'll admit that I'm invested the most in William and Julia's relationship and for whatever reason that has become non-existent on screen. After the honeymoon episode this season, for me, has felt a bit like the season when Julia shuffled off to Buffalo. So I've adjusted my expectations down accordingly....after Jilliam I am pretty much happy with character development, the private humour (the stuff you find funny only if you've watched all or a lot of the episodes), the history, etc. I haven't commented on last night's episode yet (in the episodes section) 'cause I'm not sure how I feel about it yet. Anyway, here's the link to the ratings site : IMDb MM Episode Ratings

Every time I hear that the writers have to listen to the fans, I am reminded of a quote from Sam Pollock, who was General Manager of the Montreal Canadiens from 1963 to 1978, in which time the team was the most successful NHL team and up there in all of professional sports. He was regarded as a genius......someone asked him once if he ever listened to or heeded to what fans were demanding, and his response was that listening and doing what fans demanded was the fastest way to destroy the team.....the same thing applies here.....which fans do they listen to? The ones only interested in the mysteries? The relationships? The history? The homophobes?
