Taking a cue from Helene's Twitter courage, I'm going to start posting some of my MM stuff on Buzzfeed, and probably Upworthy and Reddit as well. What else might raise MM's visibility in the US a little? I haven't had much luck with 9Gag in the past. I have to say I'm kind of bummed about the insularity of the MM fandom, which seems to mainly reside on Tumblr: a super-unfriendly environment to anyone over 20, with high bandwith requirements and a broken search system. There is little exchange between this Tumblr cabal and the construction of other channels like blogs and forums. Also, growing a fandom requires openness and tolerance: not setting up fiefs around one's OTPs or particular religious doctrines or whatever. Where is the outreach to allied interests such as Steampunk culture, mystery writer/readers, historical re-reationists, etc.? Where are the fan reviews? It doesn't help that half the fandom actually seems to want to have MM cancelled once they get their way with their OTP. If you love MM and feel inspired to create by it, you should push your creations where potential new fans can see it. Preferably in the US, where MM still needs some reality-based distribution. So I just took my first baby step in my own stealth marketing campaign by setting up a Buzzfeed account (well, second step - the first step was that Steampunk Review). Please "Like" my MM stuff there. www.buzzfeed.com/squeegirl/the-case-of-the-40-year-old-virgin-murdoch-myster-twstAlso, I haven't tried Buzzfeed before, so if anyone else is more familiar with it, please let me know how to improve my MM postings. *hugs MM*

Helene's "jump into the abyss" (Twitter) has got me thinking about getting a Twitter account but as long as I can read the tweets I'm in no rush. Glad she finally is on twitter though as she seems to have read the fan requests on the MM Facebook page for more pics of Julia please and only fitting that HJ would get them out there if Murdoch Mysteries is slow to deliver. When did any of us say that we want MM cancelled once we get our way with our OTP? Just curious, I haven't gotten that vibe from half the fans postings. Being Canadian though, I am aware of the problems the CBC is facing in just trying to stay in business so possibly Canadian based fans are bracing themselves for the inevitable? Just a thought.

I don't know, I think it's a vibe I've gotten from my big Tumblr project and all the teen-hormone-fueled shipper stuff I've been wading through. I hope it's a vibe I'm imagining: if it's real, I definitely want to fight for MM! Americans only got their first taste of MM this year! Regarding Buzzfeed, it works best with Facebook. So all I can do is rely on people with Facebook to eventually discover my post here and hope they have the good will to do a little seeding.

In honor of CC's awe-inspiring new video, I had to do another Buzzfeed collection of fanvids. All carefully documented, CC winning the top 2 slots in my book. Actually CC wins the top 3 in my head, but I thought it would be more diplomatic to spread around some credits. Without further ado here is the link: www.buzzfeed.com/squeegirl/secret-cult-of-murdoch-mysteries-revealed-in-fanvi-twstIf anyone wants to help spread knowledge of Murdoch Mysteries in the US, here is what do with this link. Please post it on facebook or twitter and email it around to any interested friends. There's a place at the bottom where you can click on how you feel about it. (LOL, OMG, WIN, and so forth). You can comment, too. You can do the same with any of my previous Buzzfeed posts. Murdoch Mysteries will never be distributed in the US if no one has ever seen it. Videos and funny pictures provide a quick and easy intro to what the series is like. Who can resist once they've had a taste? All we have to do is actually get this in front of people, and major cable distributors will get on the phones and perhaps get on their knees and beg to make an order. Then Angry Canadians may put a hit out on me because the MM actors will become such hot property in the US they will all quit for movie careers.
Anyway if you ever thought of giving a dime to a kid with a lemonade stand or throwing a bone to a puppy, please take a minute to pass along my Buzzfeed links and help your sad Murdoch-less and Health Care Challenged friends South of the Border. Credit: 22OntarioStreet

I've updated my buzzfeed video collection: it's now about twice as long: www.buzzfeed.com/squeegirl/secret-cult-of-murdoch-mysteries-revealed-in-fanvi-twstPlease pass this link along to people who might be interested in MM. (Or you can just select 1 or 2 vids from there). If you find a vid you particularly like, remember that many of these are just samples: if you follow the link to YouTube, you can sometimes find many more vids made by the same person! Please let me know if there are any hidden troves of vids that aren't coming up on YouTube search. I would like to make sure the entire MM fanvid community is somehow represented there.

Could someone help me find that trailer on YouTube with the Oscar Wilde quote - something like "The Greatest Mystery is Yourself". It might be one of the British Alibi trailers. Added a few more to Ye Over-Long Vid List: www.buzzfeed.com/squeegirl/secret-cult-of-murdoch-mysteries-revealed-in-fanvi-twstbtw, there are some buttons at the bottom where you can indicate whether you think these vids are full of win or cute or whatnot.
