www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6A8nKbF1pADetective MURDOCH is wounded. Nurse CRABTREE is needed! I can't help joking. I thought that it could be dangerous to keep wearing a blood-stained garment in the woods because of bears. He probably wasn't wearing his hat. PROTECTIVE HOMBURG POWERS DOWN! I REPEAT PROTECTIVE HOMBURG POWERS DOWN!

Apparently that hat has no protective powers whatsoever...

I guess they were listening...because we just got a tweet like this: I'm wondering how they interact for long, though, when William is out in the wilds with George...?

As I've said before, I'm fine with there not being heaps of Jilliam, but I am concerned about the marginalization of female characters. From episode 5 onwards, Julia's just been Mrs. Murdoch, and not much more Emily. I guess the real question is how long Helene was injured? If it was several weeks, and they only filmed a few scenes with her much later on, then it makes sense. But it doesn't explain Emily... I guess we'll never know. I'm going to take it as more of a response to drowninginchocolate, and hope the writers consider the claims of marginalization when writing season 9.

Who else thinks that this was not the original clip intended for release? Maybe TPTB released this one in response to our concerns? Just a thought... I thought so too. And she may not do much more than this in this episode. “Election Day” might be the ep. for the women and perhaps the corset one.

My kindly thoughtvtoward the writers is they had an original plan that kept Julia apart from William for the sake of UST - PM mentioned this at the Wedding event. But then Helene's injury threw some careful writing cues askew that would underscore the meaning of the separation. Helene was just missing. Oops. As for Emily, I think she just got shafted because there are too many characters. Gedna development needed screen time, for example.

The problem now is there are just too many characters to juggle in an episode and someone gets shafted. Unfortunately that's been Julia and Emily in recent episodes, though Julia did have some time in both HV and KC. I think what tipped the balance was M&tToD and that turned out to be unintentional. However it does underscore how people are feeling about the way the ladies are being portrayed in this seasons eps. I thought the suffragette movement was going to be an important B plot and it's turned out to be most uninspiring, not to mention the introduction of a suffragette that I can't stand. I have to say I am liking Gedna despite not liking Edna in Power, she's turned out to be good, especially with George but again one more character to juggle. I think next season the writers need to get back to basics. Sit them down and make them watch the first four seasons.

I think next season the writers need to get back to basics. Sit them down and make them watch the first four seasons. I still thinking part of the issue with Lillian is you're reading her wrong. I should point out that Emily was also mad at Julia for dropping out of the race. She has also been mad at Julia before for disappointing her feminist expectations. I think Lillian is getting saddled with the "man-hating lesbian" stereotype for leading Emily, astray, though. It still seems to me that what the writers wrote was the "young feeling the old were sell outs" stereotype, and that Lillian showed respect when Julia got up on the stage. If it seems this storyline is written in broadstrokes, that's because Lillian is B...no a C...character. Her story has to be communicated in an economy of lines and screen time. Does anything in the past writing of MM strike you to indicate that the "man-hating lesbian" is the message the writers want to get across? The difficulty in keeping radicalism going across generations is a much more interesting storyline.
