It randomly hit me that the venetian blinds in William's office really add to both the noir detective atmosphere and the "modern office bureaucracy" look. (The lamps with green shades do, too). I was so intrigued, I had to look up to see if those blinds were an anachronism. Those green lamps were very popular for a long time. I have one on my desk.
They used the green to reduce the glare from early electric lights, which tended to be VERY bright and hot, due to the thicker filaments in-use at the time. The green-tint glass was to mellow out the glare and make it more pleasing.
