Yes, why is it stopping there...? I think we went over that snacky.... We went over being suggestive and indirect, not abandoning a cliff-hanger! XD

Here's another very short piece I'd forgotten about. It's my attempt at coming to terms with William's role in What Lies Buried. William walked into the room and Julia immediately knew something was wrong. “What is it William? You seem upset.” William just sat on the sofa with his head in his hands. Julia sat next to him and put her arm around his shoulder and waited until he was ready to speak. “Why do I always have to push until I get the truth? Why can’t I just accept if someone confesses?” Julia knew these were rhetorical questions, he didn’t expect an answer, not from her anyway. “What happened William?” “Giles confessed to killing a constable and burying his body in the basement.” Julia looked at William “And why does this upset you so? Giles is hardly a sympathetic person, he’s never been anything but antagonistic towards you.” “For good reason Julia, but that’s beside the point. I’m upset because I didn’t believe him and pushed for the truth, and now the truth is out and I can’t put it back.” William replied. Julia stroked William’s hair and placed her head on his shoulder. “So someone else killed the constable.” it was a statement, she knew it had to be for William to be this upset and it had to be someone he knew and liked. “Who was it?” William looked at her, “Hodge. He’ll be charged with manslaughter, he’ll lose his pension Julia. Why couldn’t I just leave it alone, accept Giles confession?” He shook his head in disgust at himself. You should expand this and set the scene some more! I think this episode called out for this kind of fic from viewers to assuage the emotional turmoil over what happened to Hodge - something that, again, had to be resolved off screen. I have my own fic on this that I never quite got around to finishing. This one was actually closest to being a complete thing, so it might reach escape velocity from my computer HD some day. I have been working on an angsty guilty!William fic for TDWW, but it's just not coming together. I may have to send it to you at some point.

And what would William be angsty or guilty about for TDWW?? I saw nothing wrong at all! He's a married man, he's quite within his rights to ogle his wife in whatever she wears ... or doesn't wear! He hasn't been making eyes at any of the models. I love that he now feels free to loosen some of his 'stays', to put it in context.

No, this was some angst at almost killing her. I'm with Snacky in that I think William would beat himself up a bit over that-for not pulling the corset apart before he had her put it on. He was so excited to get her into it and examine it with it on her ( and run his hands all over her) he wasn't thinking straight-or with his big head apparently. I fully endorse William's right to ogle his wife, in fact, there needs to be more of it!

However I was surprised he took a piece of evidence home and put it on his wife! He must REALLY have wanted to see her in it. Perhaps he was thinking of Julia's comfort and that she would actually like to be able to breath and move. Didn't work out too well unfortunately.

I think he had his reservations about it, but his desire to see her in it overrode everything else. It was an unusual occurrence of William not thinking with his mind-and I loved it! But, I think he would kick himself for not thinking this completely through after all was said and done.

I was somewhat surprised he didn't think of the corset when Dr. Grace said the model had suffocated and there were no obvious reasons. It was right after that that he took the corset home which was even more bizarre.

Speaking of which... I finally got a chance to rewatch this. I didn't see William shooting any pervy looks at Emily over the "heaving bosom" remark in the morgue scene. The look I saw was more like "O rly now?", and THEN he shoots the pervy look at Julia.
Circling back - if the angst is over the corset mishap, William kind of deserved it. He certainly thought they were going to do a fun little experiment. Even if he did think the corset had something to do with it, he couldn't conceive how enough to regard it as a serious risk to Julia. But - hello, metal strips!!! He should have examined the thing a little closer first.
I agree with the "thinking with his little head" summary, and yes he would self-castigate over that.
Eclair and I just watched Murdoch in Ladies Wear and we were laughing at what a wimp William was vis-a-vis the Darcy situation: "...I'm sure he'll come around eventually..."

It'll be a while before I get the urge again I think. Those had been putting themselves together for some time before they reached my fingertips! I've moved on to other things for the time being.
