Hi everyone I started watching Murdoch Mysteries this fall on US Netflix and saw the first 2 seasons, when I realized that season 5-8 were on CBC ( and youtube). So I skipped ahead to Season 5, watched them all and then returned to watch Season 3 along the way .I have read along with much of the spirited discussion here, which I have enjoyed.
I just finished Season 8. Should I watch season 4 or is it too painful from Jilliam point of view?
Also forgive me if this has been asked but if Julia is infertile, why was she so concerned that William had protection in the Green Muse?

I like the season as a whole and the final ep is actually one of my favourites, but I may be the odd one out there. There are some very good episodes in S4 and it would be a shame to miss them. I'd say watch and form your own opinion, you don't have to watch it a second time. We assume that she didn't know at the time of TGM. She probably found out when she went to see Dr. Tash in SoG. She could also have been concerned about STD's which were rampant at that time.

Firstly, welcome, aam. I would definitely recommend watching season 4. Like Hodge, some of the episodes are my favourites, and there are a couple which show important character development for William.
I would assume Julia would have known about being sterile right after her abortion....the STD explanation is probably the best one.....or writers at the time weren't planning on using the potential of abortion or sterility in a future programme, although the 2 episodes are close together.....

Even though I won't rewatch it, I still recommend watching it at least once-there are some nice episodes in it, and as mentioned above, some excellent character development. I'm glad that I watched it once, but as I've stated previously, I won't rewatch it.

Fallenbelle will tell you it is too painful too watch, and if you page way back to people actually watching Season 4 live you will see a lot of: "WTF I AM NEVER WATCHING THIS SHOW AGAIN AND I'M TAKING MY POSSE WITH ME!!!" IMHO, though, there are a lot of great episodes during season 4. Angst brings out some great acting. So my vote is to watch them ALL. Multiple times!!! Regarding TGM and Julia's infertility - we have discussed that a lot, but the discussion is probably spread over multiple categories. Check the topic categories under the characters rather than the show episodes. Off the bat, some of the things I remember coming up: 1) STDs (Julia didn't know William's history, and he's a good looking guy). 2) Concern for William since he was drunk - she didn't want William to do anything he would regret. (This gets into the whole question of whether William was a virgin, his Catholic beliefs, etc.) 3) The situation simply moving too fast, and Julia needing to pace things in order to form a relationship with William rather than a "one night stand". I'm sure we came up with more than that. That scene was discussed ad infinitum and probably ad absurdum. How could it not be?

OK folks I watched the whole season except I could not bring myself to watch 2 of the saddest Jilliam ones. It was totally worth it. Thanks!

I presume the saddest is Murdoch in Wonderland, I must be one of the only people that loves that ep, I watch it all the time. I've come to the conclusion I must be the queen of angst. Which was the other you thought sad? I actually think you should watch ALL of them, you're missing a lot by not.

Ok I will take the plunge. With kleenex... The other was Buffalo Shuffle- I thought it may be. It's not that bad an episode, it's only the end. To be honest the ep that gets me the most, and I may be odd here, is Murdoch Air when Julia comes in at the end to say Darcy has agreed to the annulment. William's so happy they can finally be married but it takes another two years and lots more angst before they finally do marry.

It is incredibly sad but I feel like that dynamic is a really important part of who William is. I think it also made William love her much more later on.

I agree and that's why he was so happy that they could be married in Murdoch Air but then more angst happens.
