You certainly don't need to worry about worse for the great fire. No one was killed in the fire, just a few injured. Really lucky given the area burned but it was mainly commercial. Yes, amazingly, the only fatality connected to the Great Fire was a week later when a demolition expert was hit by falling masonry.....although, that expert was originally from England, so they could make him one of Brackenreid's relatives..... Now there's an idea!

I'm hoping not too but they're a long running thread throughout 9 seasons so ...... Then again, 'everything' covers a wide swath! Likely the others will also be caught up in whatever it is. ORRRRRR - Maybe its not people that change. Maybe the change(s) is/are relative to their everyday lives, in their environment, etc. The great fire wasn't until 1904 but maybe things, conditions in the city, etc. start to lead up to that in the latter half of this season? To be honest, I dread the depiction of 1904 because of the fire. I know it's crazy but I don't want to know that any of the station house #4 gang, their families et al that we've come to know over the years were injured, burned, or worse. You certainly don't need to worry about worse for the great fire. No one was killed in the fire, just a few injured. Really lucky given the area burned but it was mainly commercial. But perhaps there will be a little smoke-inhalation and ouchies for just enough angst.

So, Green Muse was a bit of heaven for Jilliam fans but what happened AFTER Green Muse? Shades of Grey was the next episode, with the news of Julia's abortion that forever will be an elephant in the room for them (I know they've come to terms with it but it is still there) and next came Big Murder on Campus (which introduced us to James Gillies). In other words: EVERYTHING CHANGED after Green Muse. I think it's important to reshuffle the deck every once in a while. If William and Julia's relationship just freezes now, we have a historically-themed sitcom. This doesn't mean the change has to be a break-up or cause for divorce. But if there's no emotional change, the writers are likely to resort to something external like making Julia disappear for a while. The writers also might put William and Julia through a big misunderstanding, like when Julia was being blackmailed. Or Julia may go someplace William can't follow (re: she performs an abortion). I have faith they will always reconcile, though.

Well, that's one way to shake things up. Still, I think there's more than one way to interpret this. On the bright side, it looks like we're getting a 10th season!

I could see Higgins finding himself on the wrong side of the law - remember how he was talking about the increase in pay earlier in the season? A potential conflict for George if his old buddy becomes a crooked cop

At least we know that whatever 'changes everything' doesn't affect Julia working in the morgue.

PM could've been talking about guest cast and I doubt he'd really give the ending to S9 away if there was main characters being shot. Higgins wouldn't be a crooked cop, he doesn't have the personality for it.

If he got used to the higher pay and then got demoted, he wouldn't be the first person who found himself on the take to maintain a lifestyle.

That's not the Higgins we've known for 9 seasons. He's a doofus, but a harmless one.
