I always wondered WHY Julia Ogden never took Dr. Darcy Garlands last name. I recall one episode where she makes a point of correcting someone who called her Dr. Julia Garland and said no it's Ogden. THATS WHEN I KNEW HE WASNT GOING TO LAST!!!! well I already knew. Lol.

I think it reinforces the idea of her independence for her to keep her last name.  |

She used Julia Murdoch when registering on their honeymoon. But she did say she would use it when convenient. She is still referred to Dr. Ogden by others. That is strange for the time when taking the husband name was a given. But then her Independence seems strange for the times. That is why I just never bought the Darcy marriage would ever work. Then when the conflicts started I knew it was over. To me at not time during that relationship did she ever really seem happy. I was betting that marriage was never going to happen. each episode I was expecting William to come and save her. It was torturous to watch the romance trying to work. When Darcy suggested moving back so she could work with William I knew it is just time before the marriage was done.

I think it mainly has to do with her professional title. She has a medical degree under the name of Ogden, she needs to keep it. People display their earned diplomas in their practices, she'd need to have it match her name.
