Original air date - 6th March 2008
Detective Murdoch faces an unusual case when the desiccated body of a man falls through the ceiling of the Grand Theater and onto the stage during a performance of Macbeth. Using dental records, the body is identified as that of Virgil Smart, the former owner of the theater who had died a year ago. Problem is, Smart is supposed to be buried and when they re-open his grave, they find the body of an unknown man. Murdoch suggests that Dr. Ogden attempt a facial reconstruction to identify the body. When Murdoch and Crabtree find a hidden room off Smart's office, a love nest, they believe they've found the site of his murder.

I forgot how good this episode is. Watched the re-run last night. Yes, hubby actually flipped the channel from his baseball, basketball or whatever he was watching when he saw there'd be a double airing of Murdoch. He knows how much I luff the show. Anyhoo, not to get side-tracked, the lead guest character (can't remember her name) does such a brilliant job in this episode, on and off the stage. What a performance she gave. My fave part was when all four actors were being questioned and their dramatics when recounting the story LOL. Too cute.

I love this episode for so many reasons.
When the body crashes through the roof and onto the stage. The expression on the Inspector's face: "Oh God! Not agaaain..."
"NOBODY MOVE!"
I know I shouldn't, but it cracked me up.
And Dr. Ogden's examination of the body was also funny. And when the Inspector and Murdoch are in the attic and some of the roofing material falls on Dr. Ogden and scares her! And when they go and interview the cast of the Scottish Play and Brackenreid says that actors are a "sensitive" bunch and they're all shouting and screaming at each other!!

I loved this bit, Julia quotes The Merry Wives of Windsor and Murdoch immediately knows what it is from impressing her. He then says, "You're the first. The Jesuits thought I was far too analytical for literature." And Julia looks at him in a curious way and responds, "Nonsense."
Then at the end Murdoch quotes Macbeth and the whole thing comes full circle.

Julia seems so disappointed that William doesn't appreciate her morgue humor. She turns into a bit of a sourpuss when when she tells William to use balm to defend himself from the smell. Or maybe she just doesn't like repelling him so much!
In other news, I read a tweet that said William was named after William Shakespeare, which explains something about why he has memorized some Shakespeare (beyond just proving his teachers wrong about his "analytical mind").

One week marker! Day 7 of an episode a day til season 9! I've always loved this episode! I've always remembered it well (which is a big feat for me).
1. (likely paraphrasing here but anyhow)
J: It's hard to come by a skeleton and now I have two! W: Strange. J: Isn't it? W: I meant the case...
Love her.
2. This one is so fun to pick apart and try figure it out as you watch it. Like a game of clue!
3. Loved the perv William moment when George is staring at the painting in the hidden room. "Lead us not into temptation George." AND HE STARES AT TWICE AS LONG LOL
4. William was so smug in this episode, it kills me. He kept smirking at the actors every time he'd tell them what he knew.
5. It was so kind of William to have paid for his burial.
Such simpler times in season 1 when it was only about the mysteries.

Sorry, even in S1 it wasn't just about the mysteries, it was the birth of the relationship and you could tell even then that there was something brewing.

Yep...just finished watching it, and as Julia tells him he's brilliant (about reconstructing the face with clay on the skull) he stares at her ass for quite a while as she leaves-even then. And then, he carries her picture around with great care.

Very.
