Wow, that article vindicates the alienation fans thought they saw in Helene Joy around that time. How lame for someone "on the show" to hint about getting rid of Helene Joy when the relationship is what was drawing in so many fans! There was some original vision in which MM was conceived as one-off murder mysteries that could be shown in any order: a sort of historic Law and Order where there is little to no character growth, and the specific actors can be highly devalued. Hopefully the proponents of this eventually got over it: MM is well-written, but not so well-written that the characters can be done away with all together. This "who is more disposable" tension reminds me of the rocky relationship between David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson during the X-Files, when the Powers That Be were always figuring "the woman" could be underpaid while "the man" has to be won through tough pay negotiations. I also think I read something similar about Amanda Tapping's (Stargate) pay negotiations, where she was made to feel like she was "lucky to have a job" instead of a valued member of the ensemble.

Is it my imagination, or is MM getting more press this year? This is no replacement for encouraged fan buzz. Side note: omg, the MM cast is finally going to Steampunk conventions! I was trying to convince them to make that connection for years! It's a better fit than sci fi conventions.

Have to admit Murdoch Ahoy would be pretty hard to beat. Murdoch Ahoy was a great opener. I quite liked Murdoch Air as well, and On the Waterfront, parts one and two. My only issue with OTW was that was it was split in two, but we've discussed that before. Once viewed together, it's a great episode. Still, I agree. Murdoch Ahoy might be the winner... But if we're going to start reviewing season openers... 02x01= Mild, Mild West: Cute episode, but not great. 03x01= The Murdoch Identity: Pretty good episode. 04x01= Torn and Tattered: Predicts the endgame for William had the series ended at season 4. 05x01= William's redemption-beautiful scenery 06x01= Airplane-pretty cool! 07x01= Murdoch Ahoy-aka The Titanic Ep. Maybe best. 08x01= OTW. Put together with 08x02, very epic ep. 09x01= Nolo Contendre, good ep, but not very epic. 10x01= Maybe there's a fire? That's epic. I agree Murdoch Air was a great episode. Luckily, Mild Mild West was not the Season opener in whatever venue I first watched MM. Snakes and Ladders was the first ep. Snakes and Ladders is a great ep (perhaps not "epic" but extremely emotional). Of course there is debate over the order of Season 1 as well. I was disappointed in Nolo Contendere (though of course we needed to find out what happened to George) - I thought MM had set a style of starting off with "movie scale" season openers. I admit it's hard to beat a plane and a ship. Julia on a horse with a bow and arrow could have done it, but the MM writing team sort of threw that whole concept in the garbage.

It's great to see bowling on MM! I am an avid 10 and 5-pin bowler and coach. However, they must jump a few years from season to season, as I think last year's season was around 1902-1903. Five bowling was invented in 1909 in Toronto. They are correct in showing, that 5-pin bowling was created for the wealthy.
Here is a history of 5-pin bowling
HISTORY OF 5-PIN BOWLING 1909 Thomas F. (Tommy) Ryan invents 5 Pin Bowling in Toronto, Ontario. Original Pin Count (values) are established as (from left to right) “4-2-1-3-5”. 1910 First 5 Pin Bowling League was formed at Ryan’s Toronto Bowling Club. 1912 Rubber band was added to the Pins. 1921 First perfect “450” game bowled by Bill Bromfield in Toronto, Ontario. 1921 First Ladies’ 5 Pin Bowling League started by Marion Dibble in Toronto, Ontario. 1927 First 5 Pin Bowling organization “Canadian Bowling Association” (CBA) formed in Toronto, Ontario. 1928 First “Official 5 Pin Rule Book” printed by the CBA. 1952 Pin Count revised to (from left to right) 2-3-5-3-2 (as current) 1953 First Canadian Championship (East vs. West) conducted in Regina, Saskatchewan. 1957 First automatic pinsetting machine introduced. 1958 First “Pepsi-Cola High School Championships” held in Alberta. 1962 Lane Certification and Tournament Sanctioning introduced. 1963 Bowling Proprietors’ Association of Canada (BPAC) formed. 1963 BPAC introduces program for young bowlers named National Youth Bowling Council (now named Youth Bowling Canada and often referred to as YBC). 1963 First automatic string pin-setter introduced. 1965 Bowling pin measurements standardized. 1970 Master Bowlers’ Association of Canada formed. 1971 Tommy Ryan inducted posthumously into Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame. 1972 BPAC introduces a program for senior citizens named National Golden Age Bowlers’ Club (now named Club 55+) 1975 Government survey reveals 680,000 bowlers in 20,000 leagues across Canada. 1976 National 5 Pin Bowling “Instruction & Coaching” Program introduced by the Master Bowlers’ Association of Canada. 1978 The Canadian 5 Pin Bowlers’ Association (C5PBA) is formed to become the new Sport Governing Body for the sport of 5 Pin bowling. 1983 5 Pin Bowling participates in Canada Winter Games in Chicoutimi, Quebec. 1990 Rules changed to allow the use of personal bowling balls. 1995 Government statistics report 521,000 Canadians participate regularly in 5 Pin Bowling 2007 CBC Television Series “Greatest Canadian Inventions” lists 5-Pin Bowling as the 4th Greatest Canadian Invention of all time (as voted by the Canadian public). 2007 Youth Bowling Canada leagues qualify for the new Children’s Fitness Tax Credit 2008 Heritage Canada recognizes 5-Pin Bowling as a Canadian “Heritage Sport” 2008 To kick off the Centennial Anniversary bowling season, Terry Burns of Yellowknife, Northwest Territories bowls in 100 bowling centres coast to coast over 100 days. 2009 5 Pin Bowling celebrates its Centennial Anniversary

They have used a bit of creative licence to use the bowling alley at the Parkwood Estate in Oshawa. This season is 1904......Parkwood was built during the First World War and has been used frequently as a Murdoch filming venue......I recognised the Scottish Rite in episode one as well........
Much prefer 5 pin bowling to 10 pin......

Of course I'm curious as to what it is, but at the same time, I'm like "Christmas"? We're getting another Christmas episode?
(Not complaining, mind you.)
Edit: This was originally a response to a tweet someone posted, but now it's gone?

I think just as you were replying I went to edit my post and I somehow deleted it I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ The tweet: I was starting to think that this was actually about last year's Christmas special but Helene tweeted about doing a big episode also so now I'm not sure!

We won't be getting another Christmas special, if we were it would've already been announced. They must just be filming an episode with a big storyline. And if we're lucky we'll be getting a fun Julia and William scene.

I heard someone letting something slip at the unlocking Murdoch event the other week that definitely sounded like a Christmas ep.

Plus it says that Murdoch joins the choir. Maybe we're getting our musical episode after all? I doubt it's a musical ep but maybe we're getting to hear some singing to placate those that want one. I'd rather not have one, there's no need for MM to follow in other shows footsteps, they're too good for that; though IMO they've already followed other shows with the Emily/Lillian relationship that (to me) seemed to come out of the blue and felt forced.
