Bloody Hell, this is a very well crafted story with twists and turns galore! In some ways I was disappointed that Davis was able to cut a deal thereby avoiding prison time. He's been corrupt for years. Does anyone think Crawford's story of abuse at Davis' hands was false?
I'm not sure we've seen the end of the corruption arc. Why else would Davis put Brackenreid in City Records where he could find evidence of wider corruption? Perhaps to give himself some leverage (that he needed as it turns out)? Davis came across in this episode as coldly calculating and well beyond the obviously corrupt cop we had seen earlier this season. That was a very elaborate scheme with many working parts he pulled off. The way he dangled the Inspector's job in front of William's nose....ooooooh that made me mad.
There didn't seem to be any tension between William and Julia. In fact, Julia's participation and contribution felt very normal. I would like to see some dialogue between them about their emotional fallout since losing Roland but I don't see the issue leading to a separation. That's so cliche that it's bordering on soap opera, very un-MM-like.
I also just realized that this may be the first time the body in the morgue had nothing to do with the case William was working on. This was one of only a few episodes that have a mystery without a body.

That was terrific. I was worried and I'm still not convinced that this won't impact the final episode in some way. Are there just 2 left? Also, is Rebecca still in medical school? Yes, only 2 more episodes left in S9. I don't think Rebecca is in medical school. She did one year before her sponsor died but I'm under the impression that her current training is only hands-on in the morgue.

I agree that this was a well crafted story-my only complaint was that it felt a bit crammed, and could have done with two episodes as opposed to one or as a theme that played out over multiple episodes, but that's a minor quibble. I didn't see Davis' competence either, and I enjoyed all the twists. There was never a question of whether or not Davis was guilty, but who was involved. To be honest, I didn't give Crawford much thought. However, I forgot who was playing Dilbert- he was such a far cry from his character on Stargate. Very well done! Also, I like that they called his character Dilbert-a nod to the cartoon featuring an office drone. I noticed that there was no tension between William and Julia either. They looked quite cozy snuggled up in bed together, and yes, their collaboration seemed quite natural. While it seems odd that there was no discussion about Roland, or even a comment, I'm no longer sure that their separation will be the cliffhanger, particularly given that I remembered PM's tweet from December and that episode 18 now has a title and description.

My first comment is regarding the absolute lack of any tension between W/J regarding Roland. Wonder if that's the last we've seen of it. I actually hope it is and I'd like to see the passion back in the marriage if we're not going to get any angst out of the Roland storyline.
I was hoping for another What Lies Buried but this wasn't it. That's not to say it wasn't an excellent episode, in fact one of the best this season. I think we know how CC Davis got his promotion. I wish he had been sent to jail but maybe all those records he has to file will be even worse, I suspect it will take him more than the 10 years he would have got in jail. He really makes me feel like I need a shower. WTG Richard Clarkin! Loved seeing Alderman Hubbard and Crown Prosecutor Gordon again, I really like the continuity with the characters. The storyline wasn't straightforward and you never really knew where it was going to lead ... other than taking down Davis. Who would have thought members of the Board of Control would have been involved. The sting that Murdoch set up to catch Davis had me fooled at first.
As an aside, I've been thinking all season that William needs a larger size hat, it's like a pimple on his head. It finally got to me this ep for some reason.

Upon a second viewing, I caught the comment about William not being in on the take because his wife had more money than all of them (or something to that effect). Loved William's facial expression at that aside.
I also had a chance to reflect more on Crawford, and I think that he may have been beaten up by Davis because why else be so complicit with him unless he was being threatened-much like Szabo.
I also lol'd at the end when Brax didn't wanna give his scotch up to William-as though he were afraid William would throw it out or something.
While I had no problem with the B story at all, I wonder if it may not have been taken out to make room for the A plot, which felt a bit rushed IMO. But I enjoyed it nonetheless-it was interesting to have a body that had nothing to do with the case.

His wife has more money than he'll ever earn." I caught that comment the first time and thought it interesting, Julia being the wealthy partner has never been mentioned before. I agree, this episode didn't need a B plot.

I LMAO@Higgins eating the sandwich. Gawd, I saw that coming a mile away. I LOL'd so hard I had to hit pause to calm myself. I really enjoyed this episode. There were all kinds of twists and turns to it. I hope it isn't the last we see of Davis.
I'm glad William and Julia are managing to get past losing Roland as a couple. They seem quite happy together.
I enjoyed the b plot as well. Rebecca's character is really coming along.

This episode had some good laughs and everyone had nice moments. Though there hasn't been quite enough Julia in the last two episodes. I'm glad Rebecca was absolved and she's gotten her confidence back.
It's lovely to see William and Julia back to themselves and a happily married couple again. I wonder who the new chief constable will be. Probably another nightmare for Station house 4.

When the comment about Julia's money was made, I loved William's reaction!

Overall, not bad as an episode. I felt it rather cluttered though. There was a lot going on in not very much time and I'm not sure how well it all fitted together. Some things were rather obvious, I feel.
It was nice to see Alderman Hubbard again. Mr. Dilbert is...well he's a character, I'll say that, what with the swear jar. At least that explains the title of the episode, now.
I'm wondering if this is over? I just feel that it wrapped up far too quick and neat?
I just hope that whoever the new cheif constable is, he isn't a bloody prick like the last few.

Things I liked about this episode:
1. Brackenreid refusing to let go of the bottle of whiskey. 2. Davis's "Bloody Hell!" at the end. 3. Murdoch & Co. setting up Davis for the fall.

Probably my favourite episode of the season!
1) Julia's wealth comment! 2) DILBERT 3) "You Forget who I work with" 4) NO MY WHISKEY 5) Henry and the sandwich 6) Davis's facial expression when he saw what the clerking job actually entailed. 7) Murdoch's facial expression when Davis was encouraging him for the Inspector Position at SH4, right after the "water under the bridge comment. Oh man. If looks could kill... 8) Swear jar, enough said.
Definitely gonna have to come up with some alternate episode titles for this one!
I wonder if Brax is going to get offered the CC job? It's possible. But I can't see him leaving SH4.

The Inspector already said in a previous episode (20th century murdoch I believe) that he hated desk duty. He liked to be in control, but he didn't like being ABOVE the action. I don't think he would ever seek the CC job, even if it was offered to him. But if he did, I could see Murdoch becoming inspector at SH4.

Brax getting the CC job has crossed my mind as well, but I just don't know how they would work that into the current show structure...if that is the case, I'm sure the show has a plan.

There is still O'Kelly at SH3 who could become CC......if they followed logical process, considering they have promoted 2 inspectors in a row who ran into problems (to put it mildly), it would make sense to bring in someone from outside....who is sure to bring unexpected baggage with him.....
