So, I saw mention of this on the FB group, and I thought it was a fine question to discuss here. What kind of flashback episode would you like to see? Why?

I'll start: I would like to see a Julia-centric flashback episode about her past. In particular, I'd like to see about her time in university and her experiences. There's a lot to delve into.

Brackenreid's background and his initial arrival in Canada would be interesting......

And her relationship with her father..... Yep. I get that it was somewhat adversarial, but someone had to pay for her education in the pre-student loan days. He had to have some belief in her abilities and support for her goals.

Brackenreid's background and his initial arrival in Canada would be interesting...... Yes, that would be interesting as well. I'd also like some information on his experiences in Afghanistan and how they shaped the decision to move to Canada as well. Hasn't he also mentioned at some point that he was a cop in England? Someone on the facebook group mentioned that they would like to see a flashback episode with Brax as a detective and William as a Constable...that could be interesting too.

Shipwreck was one of my favourites. Who would have thought that William's interest in detective work was sparked and nurtured by his priest? Father Keegan was obviously the most important influence in William's life on so many levels. In thinking through my answer to the question I realized that I would be happy to see flashbacks for all the characters. What was George's life like living in a brothel?? He was adopted by the minister's family but he seems to have been raised by his aunts. Rebecca's journey would be fascinating. Who was her sponsor? How/why did that come about? She was in the US at the time but ended up in Toronto....hmmm.

I have been VERY curious about that for a long time. I don't think much has been said about it, but as I said, I don't buy the he just wanted her married argument because he didn't seem to be pressuring Ruby into marriage, and someone had to finance all of her education. He had to be okay with it in some sense. If there was some sort of conflict with one another, I would wager that they were too similar to one another, but she wasn't as rational as he was perhaps. Dr. Ogden Sr. had to have been somewhat unconventional as his two daughters were anything but. Same goes for Mrs. Ogden she seems to have encouraged a free spirit in the girls as well per Devil Wears Whalebone.

I love the nods made to George's aunties over the years, but yes, I would love to see some backstory on his childhood. There's lots to be mined. I adored how William's childhood priest shaped the man he became! I would love to see that character return for some other mystery perhaps. Yes, I know MM is a mystery show, but the best part about all of these suggestions is that they can be tied into a mystery! Despite all of what we know about all of these characters, our beloved characters still remain a bit of a mystery themselves.

Or perhaps Dr Ogden Sr. wasn't as rational as he seemed......he was certainly more indulgent towards his younger daughter.....

I wondered if Julia's mom had money as a legacy/in her Will that supported Julia's education or even Julia sought a sponsor of her own--perhaps a sympathetic patron or group of women? That was not unheard of then. As for her and dad--I imagine arguments at the dining room table-- both too direct, verbal, strong headed and Ruby learning to be more subtle--and still get what she wants by going ahead and doing things anyway without being confrontational--perhaps after the debacle with Julia Lionel Ogden lightened up on Ruby in order not to lose her as well--Ruby certainly know how to charm men (Julia not so much) that would play out in their father's attitudes would it not? Also play out psychologically with Julia needing to "leave" when things get difficult in relationships. I'd like to see an origins story about Julia and Ruby's girlhood and relationship when W&J talk about being parents...there could be "flashback" sequences for both W&J about that... rg

I think mention of both their childhoods vis a vis their own child would be a good thing too. What flashback episode would you like to see?

How about when William first encounters electricity? Can to a really scienc-y episode/mystery.. Or First days with the constabulary or even a flashback to when he met the person who inspired him to take up being a police officer--I think at a logging camp...maybe that man dies in Toronto and William is assigned the case or he turns up in some way? , first meeting with George or the inspector? Love to see George and his Aunties...
