This was a great episode. I really enjoy the Rebecca James character and her beaux Nate. Someone mentioned they have great chemistry and I totally agree. They make a cute couple. It was nice to get a peek into Rebecca's school life and also her personal life. I like how the two mysteries tied together at the end. I also liked that through Rebecca's sleuthing, the murder was solved. Julia's a great mentor with the way she praised Rebecca for taking the initiative.
I did miss Brackenreid, George, and Higgins, but understood there wasn't any room left for them or the episode would have been overcrowded.

I'm surprised no one's commented on that saucy exchange between Rebecca and Nate at the end. *fans herself*

I'm surprised no one's commented on that saucy exchange between Rebecca and Nate at the end. *fans herself* I was somewhat surprised by it as MM has become very "child friendly" but then again it would probably go over most younger kids heads. I'm glad someone had the nerve to put something in like that, MM has become a little too tame recently, IMO.

So was Eva trying to rape Murdoch child friendly. Or how about the bachelorette and her cuckolded husband and Crabtree's obviously sexual relationship with Nina

So was Eva trying to rape Murdoch child friendly. Or how about the bachelorette and her cuckolded husband and Crabtree's obviously sexual relationship with Nina IMO, the show has been a little gentler than it was when it first started, but there seems to be a trend of late towards edgier, and the general consensus on this board seems to be that we like it. I was shocked that the show went there in 0918, to be honest. I wasn't disappointed, if anything, I applauded it (still do) but it was very unexpected. I got into more than one disagreement with people who flatly denied that that scene intended an attempted rape or worse, I was told I was imagining things that weren't there, so I'm glad for the confirmation. The show seems to have a bit more twisted/edgier/darker of late, but I'm not complaining about it. I may be speaking out of turn, but I don't think anyone here is complaining about those aspects-put more in-we seem to be enjoying them if anything.

This comment however was very blatant rather than a sideways suggestion of something going on.

I agree I like the trend towards the darker, edgier side. I felt the show was getting too tame and I missed that occasional insight of more behind the characters, it was a little suggestion of what could be ... even if it didn't happen. I'm not sure I could say I was shocked about the direction 918 went but was surprised. I guess some people wouldn't look at male rape the same way and perhaps it's thought of as more acceptable even though it's not. Any unwanted sexual attention is wrong regardless of the victim and William was definitely not interested in Eva, ergo rape. People will always see things differently and that's why you can get away with it in this show, some things go completely over the heads of many whilst we (in particular) seem to see it. Does that mean we're perverts ... or just insightful???

Just finished watching it again, and my husband complained about the lack of George and the Inspector. I asked why, and he said they were the "funny men". "Julia may think she's funny, but anyone can seem funny when next to the straight man." I threw a pillow at him.

Does that mean we're perverts ... or just insightful??? I think there are still people who believe that it's impossible for a man to be raped, so therefore it didn't happen nor was it intended... That's a bit of an oversimplification, IMO... Agreed that any unwanted sexual attention is sexual assault, but I digress. As far as whether or not we're perverted or insightful, I think we're both.

I'm very surprised there were any viewers who didn't think what Eva did was attempted rape. I always saw it that way.

Real world events have made it difficult for me to find time to get here to comment about this weeks ep. But in a nutshell - love Becca James's devlopment but did miss seeing George and Brax Julia/William house sideline was frankly hilarious

Very powerful episode.....I love how Rebecca James is being developed.......Julia lecturing on forensic science could lead in some interesting directions. I think Sarah's death was suicide.....the folded shawl and the stones in her pockets.....plus her behaviour in regard to the exam and trying to contact MacInnis points to her being in crisis...... No Brackenreid, Crabtree or Higgins......the episode was so tight and well paced, I didn't notice until half way through...... Ahhh, yes, I had forgotten those details about the shawl and stones. Suicide it is then. I have to agree with you that the episode was so well crafted that I didn't notice their absence either. I just finished watching and noticed the absence of Crabtree, Higgins and Brackenreid's as well. Was this the first episode to NOT have George in it?

One of the things I so love about this show is the way William has evolved because his beliefs and personality have been poked and prodded at, sometimes very seriously and sometimes hilariously. I particularly love his 'yes, well, I'm going to get on with it' face.
