This is what I suspected. Maybe they filmed scenes between Gillies and the murderer and that explains why it looks like Michael Seater was filming. I don't see any other reason for him to be at the wrap party.

I don't see any other reason for him to be at the wrap party. I wasn't expecting him to be back this soon in the season, but this makes sense as a means of bringing him back. I like the idea of a guy who somehow idealized Gillies trying to torment his nemesis by pretending to be posessed by Gillies if they're going to "bring" him back at all. Personally, I was hoping for a return of the Black Hand as a season finale, as it seems more likely as returning bad guy of sorts, but I guess we're getting Gillies in some manner. However, I don't think it will actually be Gillies at the end, as why would they blow that big of a spoiler? At any rate, I'm interested in seeing where this goes.

It's a good way of bringing him back without actually bringing him back to life. I wouldn't like him to actually be alive but I'm intrigued by him 'haunting' another person.

Actually being alive? No. I agree with you that this is an intriguing way of bringing him back without actually bringing him back. But if they actually bring Gillies back, I'm going to be concerned that the season opener for next season might be filmed at an aquarium if you catch my drift.

I think this is going to be a very angsty episode for all...characters AND fans! I agree that this is an interesting way to revisit James Gillies' particular brand of cat and mouse with William and Julia without having to construct yet another implausible, miraculous escape from death. I think there are going to be a lot of flashbacks from all Gillies episodes as indicated in the credits for writing and directing "Excerpts".
Did anyone else have a deja vu moment when the guy said "the devil told me to do it"? That sneak peak has Me, Myself and Murdoch written all over it (not that I think the rest of the ep will be). Perhaps this fellow spent time in prison with Gillies as his cell mate. Gillies was a master manipulator and it would have given him great pleasure to spend the endless hours necessary to warp this poor man's brain enough to become the devil in his head.

This is a clever title, the devil in Murdoch's world is Gillies. It may have been the return of Gillies but it was a brilliant episode and now we know he's definitely dead. Julia also got her wish to examine his brain. This episode ranks up with What Lies Buried for me. What a great psychological thriller!

Edge of my seat, nail-biter, NOOOOOOOO he's got Roland!!!!! Holy crap, what a ride. I stopped breathing when William entered the hotel room.
The acting in this episode is some of Yannick and Helene's best work to date. Absolutely brilliant! Watch it again without the volume to really appreciate their craftsmanship.
Peter Mitchell, you have really messed with us this time but I have to say, well done! The return of James Gillies was quite plausible after all.

I have to say that while I wasn't thrilled Gillies was alive, every other part of the episode was so well done. The acting and plot, as well as the pacing was so perfect and it was a truly fitting end to Gillies.
I have to say I wouldve liked to see Leslie Garland though.

Good episode, they didnt explain anything about the guy with similar features though. Wouldve liked to see that this episode. Maybe that plot point can materialize in another season.

I'd really hoped it was going to be some mastermind copycat killer, maybe a new nemesis, but honestly I didn't mind Gillies at all this time around. I kind of liked him. Totally predicted him coming back with his face all busted up, though I still find his escape after that kind of injury pretty farfetched. And he was handcuffed when he jumped off the bridge, or am I remembering it wrong? But I had fun!
My only complaints are that there were way too many flashback scenes (like, every other scene Gillies has ever been in lmao) and the child actor playing Veronica was really bad. I mean, I don;t have high expectations for child/young teen actors doing bit roles, but they at least shouldn't be so ridiculous I'm actually taken out of the supposed-to-be serious and dramatic scene.

Ha, also, I thought for sure when Murdoch told the dude to say something only Gillies would know, he was gonna bring up that kiss on the tracks. I think that would've been hysterical

I couldn't believe how the suspense built and built and kept wondering what could happen next. I agree on the acting, it's always good but this episode was exceptional. Kudos to the actor that played Foley too. I hated James Gillies and never really enjoyed his episodes, this one really was good though but I'm glad he's finally gone ... hopefully! Peter Mitchell you promised us dark and you certainly delivered in this ep. Hope the rest of S10 lives up to this one.
