Then we finally had confirmation that William really is a freak when he wants to make hawt nerd love in the morgue tent. Now all we need is for him to go for it in the real morgue 'cause we all know he wants to. The dead tell no tales after all! I thought the same, or is this a case of what we've discussed here making it's way into the show...? To be honest, I've wondered that myself. Who knows, but it's fun to believe!

There has been a lot of discussion about how this episode seems to be based on the story of the Black Donnellys, a family that settled in Lucan, Ont (near London). Five of them were massacred in 1880 by a vigilante group made up of neighbours they had been feuding with for years. No one was convicted of the murders. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Donnellys

I guess William and Julia will be staying in the hotel for a while to come. I wonder when they will finally get that house of theirs. But they really couldn't have lived on that land after arresting several neighbours. They have deaths and crime everywhere they go, but at least they got to have some fun in the tent before they left. It was a fun episode and everyone had plenty to do. I enjoyed it. Though I still feel the missing women story is out of place and underwhelming. I also have to question the fact that these attractive and smart women would keep going for the constables. The best looking of them (Higgins) can't even get a girl. Though George really does have nice chemistry with Miss Cherry. I like her and she fits comfortably in the plots. I don't mind if she sticks around for a while. I wonder if we'll see more of Julia's students this season. She's good in instructor mode and I liked how it was woven into the plot of this episode. I think the fact that the lady doctors keep falling for the Constables is a sort of in-joke, because a lot of nurses and maybe even physicians end up with cops nowadays? I know it was a running joke on ER that the nurses always hooked up with cops, and my friend who is an ER nurse has dated a few cops, so maybe it's that? It's not always about looks, Higgins does leer and comes across as very overbearing as that how he is being written this season. Many women aren't always attracted to men for their looks, personality is just as important, and to be honest, if I had a choice I'd pick Crabtree or Jackson over Higgins too. I didn't hate Nina at all, I quite liked her and I think she provided a nice look into that part of society of the time, but that story has run its course. But I also like Miss Cherry and agree that she fits better into the plots. I also really like Julia as a teacher, and look forward to seeing more of that. I just hope they don't completely remove her from the morgue.

I just hope they don't completely remove her from the morgue. It isn't really the fact they're cops, my dad was a PC, so I have no bias against that. It's more the fact they aren't the best looking or most intelligent guys and these women are out of their league in those departments. I personally wouldn't go for Jackson, I've always thought he was an insensitive buffoon and he's no better than Higgins in that way. Higgins is at least cute. It's always a case of having to suspend your disbelief that these women would go for the constables. My comment was poking fun at the show's tendency to do this. I like Nina as a person and there's nothing wrong with the way she lives. But she and George were bad together because he didn't treat her as an equal. I agree that the storyline has run it's course and it shouldn't be revisited. He treats Miss Cherry with respect and equality and her being a reporter is useful. I don't feel her scenes are wasteful. It's not like I believe she'll be the woman he marries, but she's a good fit for a current romance, if it goes that far. Maybe it won't.

Late to the party this week...
I agree with much of the discussion so far. The first scene had me going "huh? Why is Julia digging in the pouring rain while William watches?" I do believe it is now a running gag that William doesn't dig holes. I never even thought that it might be Gillies they were burying. Why would they want him on their land?? Craig Grant retweeted his post from filming that night...it was a God-awful storm so thank heavens they had a tent. It would have been impossible without it.
I'm surprised no-one has mentioned Julia's sweater. It was hot that week and everyone else was down to shirtsleeves. Certainly a nod to Mr. Fred Rogers and the iconic sweater he wore each day in his neighbourhood! (Very happy that Julia's didn't have a zipper: the modern version wasn't invented until 1913.)
It was a quite a ride with so many twists and turns. The whole wild west justice and nod to the Black Donnelly's was a great plot. The writers have very neatly found a plausible way for the Murdoch's to remain in their suite and the Windsor House Hotel for some time to come, although I am suprised that the hotel management still welcomes them after 1 murder, 2 shootings and 2 kidnappings in their room! Why, in fact, do W and J WANT to stay there?
Jackson has been one of my favourite constables since he was introduced in S5. I like that we are getting some back story on him...5 seasons without a first name! My fear is that we are being set up for Jackson's departure from the show. Kristian Bruun has said he is moving to LA. I'm hoping they don't kill him off. Let him ride off into the sunset, perhaps with Miss Baxter and be happy.
Det. Watts is really growing on me, probably because he's being written with less scattered creativity and more logical pursuit and dogged determination to solve the case...oh, a bit more like William. I suspect this B plot is going to morph into the cliffhanger. There are only 5 episodes left and this is the 3rd installment of it. The writers simply don't have time to waste B plots without some purpose.

I loved the Murdoch sweep this week. That scene near the end as Alvin Nash was getting out of the paddywagon and Higgins offering to help. Nepotism is alive and well with this group:
Yannick - Shantelle twice, Brianna once, Dominique once, Mikaela twice and his dad once.
Lachlan - his dad twice
Peter Mitchell - his daughter twice
Can anyone think of any others?

I think that this was probably my favourite episode of the season so far - not much to say that hasn't already been said -
I thought Murdoch and Julia were particularly adorable iin that last scene when they decide not to build on that land. (especially as they arrested a handful of their neighbors not to mention pissed off the rest)
It was great to see Jackson getting more of a backstory - it's about time -

Kaitlin Kozell was in The Artful Detective. She's Johnny's girlfriend? Yep, not sure who she played, IMDB said "young mother".

I saw no "young mother" anywhere however there was a young woman that asked about Prof. Galbraith, the second victim.

I have to say, I am not missing Brackenreid at all. I was never a huge fan of his anyway but I really like the new detective and I'm happy with Jackson's increased role.

This is driving me nuts...which episode was his dad in, and which part did he play?

This is driving me nuts...which episode was his dad in, and which part did he play? I believe it was Twisted Sisters and he was a background actor in the stationhouse. I can never find the scene again for some reason.
