If Pendrick faked his own death in this episode then wouldn't that kind of rule out William doing the same in the finale? Would the writers repeat something that soon? I don't know. Julia would consider him doing that after Pendrick only very recently having done the same thing. George was going to marry Edna and was willing to rot in jail for her, so he wouldn't be claiming Nina was the one in his heart till the day he died. The show has done foreshadowing before, in seasons six and seven that come to mind with William facing a dilemma like the man did in Murdoch and the Cloud of Doom, and Brax mulling over his mortality in season 7 before he was attacked. Can anyone think of any others? Yes, George was going to rot in jail for Edna, but he definitely did write that in a book he gave to Nina. He wrote it but it wasn't believable. I rolled my eyes because we weren't shown onscreen that he was madly in love with her. I wish they would just let it all die and move George on. Pendrick didn't lose his hair, so he did somehow fake his 'death'. Brackenreid said he died in his arms, but that isn't what happened, so he had to have been involved in convincing Brackenreid he was dead.

He somehow tricked Brackenreid and that's why he sent the postcard at the end to tell and show him he was alive.

FallenBelle yes I absolutely thought there was some foreshadowing. I still think the Season is going to end with William going undercover or something, and that everyone including Julia will think he is dead. That's my .02 as well.

Anyone else catch that Pendrick died of Polonium poisoning, or the Russian choice for doing away with spies, most notably Alexander Litivenko? www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-19647226

Maybe the Russians ... or perhaps the Americans as they're the bad guys when it comes to MM ... were trying to get Pendrick's fountain of youth formula.

Meyers(?) did say that it was discovered by them, and they did feature in the race for the automaton...
