It's too bad that W/J visiting Jasper isn't a part of the real MM timeline. Though I presume we can take the special to indicate that William is in contact with his brother in the real timeline.
I've been waiting years to see Jasper again and here's hoping he'll pop up in a future episode.

Was anyone else underwhelmed? I dosed off and can't even remember how it ended. I didn't like the way they made Margaret into this money grubbing person seemingly out of the blue, and I figured Brackenreid would have remembered the time he gave his money to someone (his barber?) and the guy took off with it. As far as the story goes, I didn't much like the whole trip out west. The best parts seemed to be around Crabtree and Higgins.

To be honest I was so happy to see Jasper again, I'm pretty sure a lot of this episode went over my head. Though I will admit there wasn't as much brotherly bonding as I was expecting. That and I thought Jasper would have been more encouraging of the sciences with his girls. But he was absent a lot when they were growing up so perhaps that bond isn't really there with them. Would have liked to see some more Linney - Murdoch/Ogden interactions once Julia and Daphne reached their understanding. But alas I remind myself that this isn't a drama it's a murder/mystery show so - But still I am left wanting more
I think we take Julia for granted a lot. Like. Oh how do I explain this? We're so used to seeing 1904 modern women that mirror our era; Julia keeping her name and career, Rebecca - obtaining a medical degree and geting a Dr. before her name, Nina confident and unapologetic for her career, Emily experimenting with her sexuality & out of body experiences. In addition we're so used to seeing people who know Julia interact with her that putting her in contrast against Daphne, really highlights how progressive and somewhat radical these remarkable women are. Margaret, is the most like Daphne out of all of our East coast crew. But she knows Julia and is used to her. Now I'm not saying Daphne isn't remarkable nor Margaret - but Julia to her was a reminder of everything she gave up. And I get why she was kind of discouraging her girls, it's hard to watch your dreams/ambitions slowly die, and that's not something you'd want your kids to experiance. That being said - I think Julia really helped Daphne out there by reminding her that she still can do whatever it is she wants to do. As Jasper said - Daphne was a bit lost maybe Julia helped her find some direction again
As I said to my mother while we were watching "Julia became the cool Aunt"
Not a fan of Margaret's who money obsession this episode, but Margaret does have that competitive tendancey so I can see how she'd be dragged in. And she has displayed materialistic tenancies in the past. That being said I do like how they brought up this other aspect of Christmas - one that isn't actively discussed a whole lot. I did enjoy Ruth Newsome's - admittedly I've always been fond of her and her teamup with Nina was everything I didn't know I needed. George and Henry were the best just sayin'.
I'd also like to mention William's snowflake. THAT THINK WAS FREAKIN' RIDICULOUS OHMYGOSH
"IT"S THE INSIDE OF A PERSON" yes. yes it is.

I also didn't enjoy this episode. I felt it tried to cover too much at once, and accomplished nothing, as a result. You have the Murdoch storyline, the murder, the Indian thing, the Brackenreid storyline with the ponzi scheme, you have the constables with their girls...
...it just got too damn crowded for any one storyline to stand out, and that ruined it for me.

The xmas special was great. How could you not love it? It portrayed a typical family get together. One relative taking over. This was jasper cancelling William's booking at the hotel and insisting he stay with them. One big upset when julia did the post mortem on the dog and and got thrown out. Who hasn't come across a relative that is bossy or seen tempers flare at xmas? Julia made a really funloving Aunt. i also loved it when William did not scold julia or blame her for the falling out.It was very different and well done with the Indians. jasper seemed happy to hang back and follow William with the murder investigation. I thought he would be more forceful. Margaret was really good in this episode and showed that there are only two types of people, the needy and the greedy. The foursomeof Nina, Ruth, Henry and George is really sweet and I hope we see more of them together. I loved this special. The writers and actors did a great job. Can't wait to see it again on Saturday here in Austalia. Loved it....

Helene was especially hilarious in this. She did a great job with her deadpan humour. I really enjoyed seeing Jasper again and he and his family were very entertaining. They really need to pop up in the proper episodes.
Higgins also did some great comedic bits and it was nice to see another side to Ruth. I wonder if that will sometimes translate over into the real MM timeline. Some parts of the story I didn't much enjoy very much like the conman bit and George becoming annoying around Nina, but overall a fun Christmas special.

Anyone know why CBC.ca doesn't have the Christmas episodes to watch? They have everything else but those ones.
