When Watts first joined the show I didn't really like him, and thought he was going to be an insincere character, intended to either replace someone or reduce Murdoch's role. But I totally changed my mind by the end of season 10 and start of season 11. He is thoroughly sincere, charming while rather eccentric.

I like Watts. He adds a certain level of whackiness and eccentricity to the show. Like Murdoch, he's weird and unconventional, but in a different way. It gives the show variety.

I agree with you, but he's extremely sincere and has no arrogance or meannes. He doesn't manage to make idiotic remarks like Crabtree.

I also like Watts very much. Love how he's out of the loop of real life and people are usually confused about what he says, like when he told Miss Pink (the detective) she has a symmetrical face and she wasn't sure if she should feel insulted or complimented. In spite of his limited social acumen he's quite the good detective. He's such a mess (dress, appearance, disorderly) but he gets the job done.
