So the usual. #PointlessCommentIsPointless Just noticed Inspector B urging George to go see Emily before she leaves the city in the Cloud of Doom ep. George goes and seizes a Hollywood-style epic kiss. Seriously - what boss in the history of history has every been such a softy matchmaker as Inspector B? It's a hobby of his up there with painting and the theater! Brax' screen name is #1RighttheShipper. Some shippers are all talk, but Brax, he makes the ships happen.

So, having just rewatched this, Julia and Ruby seem to have a volatile relationship. Anyone want to hazard a guess as to why this was? I know I've sort of speculated before, but it was somewhere else, and didn't get that much play. Insights? Thoughts? When Ruby invited William to dinner, it was hard to tell whether the problem was that she competed with Julia and stole her boyfriends or whether she was really manipulative and stooped to low methods to get what she wanted. Either would be pretty annoying for Julia. Also she made Julia self-conscious about her looks and probably made her feel a bit threatened about being a spinster even though Ruby was quite a "notorious" single woman herself. As an eldest sister, I don't get along with my two younger sisters, but that's because they've never acknowledged any crappy thing they've done to me, and I can't maintain my point of view about it because they team up. But Ruby doesn't have a sister to form this "power bloc" with, so it's hard to see what's keeping Julia from using her position as oldest and wisest to stand up to Ruby more. Perhaps their father constantly told Julia to let Ruby have her way on any tantrum, etc. Even without the knowledge gleaned from The Death of Dr. Ogden, my reasoning about the tension in Julia and Ruby's relationship has to do with a) Ruby is the beautiful wild child who has daddy wrapped around her baby finger and b) Julia, as firstborn, is wired to fill the role of pleasing her parents (father). Along comes much younger wild child who gets away with so many things that Julia never could. It's a breeding ground for resentment having nothing to do with boyfriend stealing. I have some experience with this. I am the oldest, most responsible, tow the line type and the other two got away with murder. (I spent a few years despising my sister because of this.)

(I spent a few years despising my sister because of this.) I'm also the oldest, and have a similar relationship to my sisters. I think that dynamic might be universal.

Another day of an ep til season 9!
1. The first time I watched this episode I didn't like Ruby at all and I wouldn't even be able to begin to explain why. Now I just love Ruby! I wish we would have seen her in season 8.
2. I also wish we knew when/what happened to Julia's mother.
3. I quite enjoy how annoyed Brackenreid is with Houdini. I absolutely died laughing when he managed to cuff the Inspector to the interview table.
4. Ohhh I forgot this was the episode when he imagines her topless. I love when perv William comes out!
5. Julia was so very jealous early on. I wonder where that went in the later seasons.

We've had a few father/son combinations over the years....Houdini is played by Joe Dinicol.....his father is Keith Dinicol, who played Dr. Bradley in The Death of Dr. Ogden.....do you get the impression acting in Canada can be a bit of a family affair.....We've had Lachlan Murdoch's father in I, Murdoch, and speaking of The Death of Dr. Ogden, Julia's father was played by David Fox, whose son, Gavin Fox, played Humber in Crabtree Mania.....There are probably more.....
