Another day of an ep til season 9. It may be 4 am here but I haven't slept yet, so it still counts as yesterday, right? right? 1. I've been mentioning Julia being jealous a lot lately but, goodness! "Where did you two meet, a church function perhaps?" 2. Like most episodes that could infer that William has had past lovers I find myself going back and forth on the subject with this episode as well. Half of the time I put it down to Ettie having feelings for William that he never (fully) reciprocated and the other half I feel as if they were involved. 3. When William asks Julia to dinner I love when he says "Good. Very good." then looks around slightly and takes off. It's like he forgot to consider what he's supposed to do when she says yes! 4. Once again the murderer was a small character that you are introduced to briefly. 5. I'm also not sure if I'm glad they closed the door on Ettie's story line. I would have been just fine with them bringing her back ever few seasons.

I would have been just fine with them bringing her back ever few seasons. I think in early seasons, Julia was jealous, but I do think it stems from insecurity, as we've discussed in earlier threads. I think from season 6 onwards, confident in William's feelings for her, combined with her self-healing from her time with Freud, she's more secure. Interestingly enough, hubby and I decided to bingewatch all the eps and we just finished Victor/Victoria. I'm enjoying watching all the episodes from the beginning, but I'm dreading season 4. Yes, in contradiction to Snacky's claims that I haven't watched it, I have. I just don't know if I can make myself rewatch it. Still, as you can see from my earlier comments on this episode, it's one of my faves. Yes, it's cool because W/J officially hook up, but I like the play with Ettie as well. I also kind of wish they would bring her back for a case. No, I don't hope that she comes back with William's kid...

Definitely don't need any surprise mini-Williams running around. I am also dreading season 4. And 5.

I love both seasons, yes Darcy's in them and I really don't like him, he turned out to be an ass poor loser, but the story lines were great. I think there are more eps in S5 that I like than in any other season. No I don't like that William is hurting but I've come to terms with the angst and enjoy them for what they are. I enjoy the later seasons even more after the angst of S4 & 5.

I would also consider myself to love both seasons, just less than most of the others, if not all of them! I wouldn't trade what happened in them for anything else either. It really did make what happens afterwards that much more enjoyable. They just break my heart. Every time.

They would have been forced to have the wedding sooner and I'm not sure the show could have stood 5 years of marriage at that point. Now I think it could go on forever.

If they continued with the Jilliam dynamic as a main force of the show, then definitely! There is a lot to appreciate about s4 & s5.

I actually don't mind season 5-it's just season 4, because the entire season is William's destruction, and as someone who likes William, I don't enjoy watching that. Season 5 is at least William rebuilding his life and some hope. Had the show ended at season 4, William's life would have been ruined, and would have been a horrible end to the series.

I think if the series had been ending after S4 William would have gone to the church and stopped the wedding despite having set Constance Gardner free. They did an alternate ending for S3 to end on a good note had it been cancelled. Perhaps they knew they were safe for S5 and didn't need the alternate ending. I note the show runner was replaced after S4 though....

That would have been a horrible way to end the series, and if the series had ended there, I would be the first to agree that the mob should gather at Christine Jennings doorstep and howl for justice. But, fortunately, the series didn't end. I like to think that the Powers That Be had high hopes it wouldn't end, so the cliffhanger that screwed with us was the same as all cliffhangers that screw with us. If you presume the series doesn't end, then it probably takes a certain type of person to develop a taste for the struggle back from the brink of the complet ruin of a life. I rather like that in a TV series myself. Therefore, I find Season 4 particularly pleasing. Again, I'm lucky to have watched the whole series via binge-watching in hindsight. If I had been given that ending with the threat of series cancellation, my views might be a tad more enhanced.

I agree, and knowing they make it back together in the end takes the sting out of both S4 & 5. I saw S7 first then S5 & 6 so knew everything turned out fine which probably made S4 easier to take from the start.

I first saw the series completely out of order because I was watching the early ones on the CityTv reruns (and different stations, because I was time shifting....the various stations weren't in sinc with each other)and season 7 on the CBC, so I had no idea what was going on with whom initially......good thing I enjoyed what I saw, because things made a lot more sense once I figured out order was......
