Original air date - 27th March 2009
The police investigate the murder of Howard Rookwood, a well-known Toronto industrialist and philanthropist who was struck on the head just outside of his house. Rookwood was an active supporter of Baker House, a home that specializes in relocating underprivileged children from England to Canada and his own daughter was adopted. As Detective Murdoch examines the forensic evidence, he and Doctor Ogden conclude that a child, or children, may be the culprit. The true motivation and solution to the crime however is far darker.

Other than a few funny bits, this episode blows. :/ It's definitely my least fav of the season but it can never be worse than some from S5 so it's not my least fav of all time. That honour will forever go to the opera one. *shivers*

I quite liked this episode-if only for the little touches. The story was a bit dark, but that's what I liked about the early seasons. George (and maybe even William) scoping out the half-naked girl with the glasses. Heh heh heh, evil!Julia taking her time to measure which height William is at when determining the killer's height. As well as maybe even scope out his ass.Great backstory about Brax growing up poor-he had to quit school to support his family? Or is this another inconsistency? He doesn't strike me as an uneducated man...interesting.... William "catching" a slap. Smooth, William, smooth. I guess these are the little kinds of touches that had to get sacrificed when the show's length was cut-such as the Irish/Celtic (?) folk music in the bar, William and George looking at half-naked girls, Henry bungling the casting of the footprints and William showing him how to do them, William getting his bike back, Brax softening his position in regards to the street children, and William/Brax crashing a fundraiser and threatening Howard Baker into reform-while helping themselves to drinks. I also liked how William admitted that there was value in doing some things the Brackenreid way. All in all, these little touches are unnecessary to the plot overall, yet they were instrumental in helping set the mood, and transporting us there to that world. I still enjoy the show, but I do feel something was lost when they went to shorter run time.

Day 10 of an episode til season 9!
1. I love how William took the Inspector's opera glasses. William, a thief?! I'm sure he justified it as borrowing since he'll get them back 'next Tuesday... or Wednesday'.
2. Loved William's attempt at impressing Julia. "I could hold this position for hours" and not much later he's struggling LOL
3. There is one thing in the writing that gets under my skin. In so many of the interviews William does he asks if they saw anything odd. They always say no, pause a minute then say, wait.. there was one thing! It happens so often and it just bothers me every time for whatever reason.
4. I love the expression George makes when the tell him they should stake out where the horses end up! His 'duh' face is great!
5. I loved how many different possibilities to who did this murder. It made it fun to watch!
