Lol, funny how opinions can be so different about one single episode. I actually thought you need to be pretty strong and brave to take the risks Murdoch took and though it hurt to watch I enjoyed every minute.

My Dad always says that he is wearing eye-liner, I just tell him to shut up! I think its called a double row of eyelashes, Elizabeth Taylor had it too. Some people are just born lucky.

And the strength of character to sacrifice his own happiness for Ava's, too. I think he also thought that Julia would have wanted him to do this.

Maureen Jennings did a great job creating this character. With his job, he's very professional, dedicated, extremly intelligent, and thorough. But when it comes to his personal life, I adore that he has two left dancing feet, can be a bit clumsy with his love life, and seems a little unsure of himself. There's a nice balance to his personality. He's a character one can easily root for.

I like Murdoch because he's a man of action and intelligence. Strength and patience. Although I'm not sure that he's very good with showing his emotions.

I think he is really cute when he talks to women in general. He is a bit reserved but very good at his job. He is a great detective, very good looking and I love what he does with he eyebrows sometimes when he wants to seduce Julia like at the end of Victor, Victorian, Really funny. I also noticed that he is more comfortable when he kisses Julia than any other women and oh, Enid really scared me when she was with him. I thought she would beat him up. Poor Murdoch, he is so cute, Who would like to frightened him?!! He is not very confident with women in general but I think Julia taught him how to be a bit more confident, Anyway I really like him.

Murdoch is... a very interesting character to me. Highly intelligent, but his ability to interact is... questionable at times. A friend brought up to me the theory autistic traits/aspergers, which fit my thoughts too. Not full on autism by any stretch, but some very definite traits.
What fascinated me most was 5.08 where he proved he could demonstrate very powerful very real seeming emotions... when acting. Much more so than his genuine emotions, which even when strong come across as stilted. Which just yeah. It was well done.
Also. Him and Pendrick make me happy. I love their little enmity for the longest time. And I like that as they progress, Pendrick seems capable of picking up on those harder to read emotions. It just amuses me that of all people, it's the guy he seems inordinately fond of accusing of dastardly deeds.

I wouldn't say he's fond of thinking the worst of Pendrick, the evidence just always seems to point at him. He's kind of the unlucky/unfortunate guy who always looks good for the murders, when he's in fact innocent. Sort of the opposite of Meyers who is often up to no good, but it's very hard to prove that he is. Yeah, I think they were making the connection btwn William and Lyda, the woman who was autistic, in terms of having very clear focus and brilliance but trouble reading and expressing emotions. He's definitely not severely or even moderately autistic, but he does have some social awkwardness that people who are extremely intelligent sometimes do. Some of his trouble with emotions just comes from how he was raised in a strict environment, having a father he was afraid of and the trauma of his mother's death.

Okay, the fond of thinking the worst was poorly worded on my part. It was more, voicing amusement that it always seems to happen. But 6.01 they got along pretty well for, which was fun to see. And they did for a lot of 5.06, despite that still having it look bad still for Pendrick. I mean, there definitely isn't so much an actual oh murder, must be Pendrick. Murdoch follows evidence wherever it leads, even if it's to himself. It's one of his admirable traits. And I sort of agree on the autism trait things. You're right he's definitely not severely/moderately autistic. Just the level of traits that they did end up comparing him to an autistic lady. But I would note that his half brother who had a different home environment had some of the similarities. So it wasn't strictly nurture.

Jasper was definitely odd. He wasn't shy or reserved, like William, but he had odd quirks. You could even call them ticks. He had a stiffness to him. He was definitely odder than William IMO.

for me murdoch's got more relaxed from the first series and thats down to julia he's not the sweet catholic boy we all loved even if he won't live in sin with julia i always believed that something went on with him and anna but julia's different to him he wants to be with her for the rest of his life he loved his mother which i believe he got his values from and doesn't want to be like his father has for jasper does anyone know if he was older then william i think he was having given him the advice about julia hope he comes for a visit maybe he could be william's bestman also where begining to see him fight for what he wants and for the people he loves and that includes stationhouse4 he so different from the books and that for me is a good thing

I thought he was supposed to be younger than William. Didn't Harry say that he met Jasper's mother after William's mother died? That would have made him at 5 years younger than William. Probably more like 7 or 8 years younger. I'd have to watch that episode again. It's not one I rewatch a lot.

I am making my way through the books now, and I agree that Murdoch is quite different in the series. I love that he is a man of science and invention in the series. In the books, he is a very good detective, but the science aspect has not so far been present. The books are great reading ,though, and you can tell that the scriptwriters have eith er read them or are consulting with Maureen Jennings about the characters and stories. I would like to see the made for t.v. movies that came out before the series, just to compare them to the books and current series.

The three made for TV movies are much more like the books except for a few details. In the books Julia Ogden is older and not someone that would interest Murdoch who has his eyes elsewhere. In the films they introduce a Julia Ogden much more like the series. The rest of the material in the films is much like the books.
