Yeah, I don't agree that it's a family show though. There are a lot of things in it that are not kid friendly. And it has a lot of comic elements, even though I wouldn't call it a complete comedy. I think perhaps the problem is that it doesn't fit into a narrow category like these execs want it to. It's a period drama with strong comedy and elements of contemporary police procedurals. You would think that uniqueness and the high ratings (across age ranges based on the fans here) would make it something they'd want to hold onto. And if they want the U.S. brought in, I'm sure it would do well here.

well, there was an article in the Toronto Star today about why it was cancelled and they basically only have theories themselves. Theory 1 was simply that it is played through Citytv and the shows original champions are no longer there. Theory 2 was budget reasons. domestic shows only have so much money to be spent and it's probable Murdoch is being replaced with Canada's Got Talent. blah. Theory 3 was that it's not a comedy and the station wants to launch a Canadian comedy. Theory 4 was that it's a period piece and because of this not popular with Canada's largest urban centres and younger viewers and the new hot shots of Rogers Media don't like this. (BTW, originally, Peter Mitchell was going to bring in a young new love interest for Murdoch, which i'm guessing would be the protege. however, since the show is possibly ending, that's probably not happening anymore. the last bit is my opinion though). Theory 5 was that it's not an edgy drama like Sons of Anarchy and the Rogers hotshots want something that is. Theory 6: it's a problem that it doesn't share expenses with a US broadcaster. Silver Lining: Christina Jennings says she's confident her partners at ITV in the UK would be on board for a sixth season. however she lacks proper funding. all she needs to do is find another network though. The Star suggests it should be picked up by CBC. so, there is still some hope that the show will get another season.

Yeah, someone posted it on FB a few days ago. It must have been released earlier than it was supposed to. No worries, I just thought I'd mention I'd posted it if others wanted to read it. It's on the bottom of page 1 of this thread.
