Thomas Craig is a very good actor, but a very nice man too. He adds a lot to this show.

Best line in this week's episode was: Oh good, a chart! Made me laugh out loud I was thrilled to see the man himself, actor Thomas Craig, in the Courtyard theatre in London last night. He was in the audience, not on the stage, but it was a pleasure to see him. He looks much younger without his whiskers too!

I think he's hilarious! He's a great contrast to Murdoch and Crabtree. I hope we get an episode focused on Brackenreid more soon.

I loved that line too, Susie! To be honest, much as I love the man, I think if I had to work with Murdoch on a daily basis I'd probably have similar reactions to Brackenreid's

He's a great character and my favourite. I'd say my favourite episode with him is the Buffalo Bill one.

I think my favorite Brackenreid episode is Rich Boy, Poor Boy. I also loved the ones in S4 with him running for alderman.

The Inspector is a great character. Like Crabtree, he adds an element of comedy to the show. Like that fixation over how his name is spelt, completely ignoring the fact that the stationhouse has been completely trashed during the night. And his complete inability to comprehend the scientific stuff that Murdoch sprouts on such frequent occasions. But he's obviously a loving father to his two boys and an affectionate husband, despite the ups and downs of his marriage.
Despite his perceived incompetence in some areas, I like that it IS shown why he has attained the post of Inspector. For example, he manages to notice and point out things that the younger officers wouldn't ever think of. For example, he knows where the restaurant was in "Convalescence" and he knows the best place to stake-out in "Child's Play".

Hi. Just started watching MM in the US, so I'll chime in on Brackenried. I think he is a good man, but the violence and bluster he exhibits are the result of his upbringing and the times he lives in. Murdoch has had a calming effect on him for the most part. Nevertheless, he is a passionate and volatile person. He is almost certainly from working class roots, and has worked very hard to get to his current position. He loves his wife and children, and I would like to see more of them being a little more domestic.
He certainly offers a great counterpoint to Murdoch, but he is no fool, that's for sure. He makes me laugh.

In Maureen Jennings' books Brackenreid is very abrasive, although he does soften up a bit as he does in the series.

Brackenreid reminded me a bit of Giles in the books: I didn't see him soften up so much as trying to get his job done right.
I agree with Mrs. Brisby's analysis of Brackenreid. Because he's pugnacious much of the time it's extremely moving when he decides to soften up - like when he found William (dead?) in the field in I, Murdoch. His relationship with his wife - his "better half" - is hilarious. Also, I think his active approach to getting the job done is an important counterpoint to William's deadpan moodiness: MM wouldn't work as a show without Brackenreid.
He needs to lay off on the Bloody Hells though. At a certain point a catch-phrase becomes self-parody. If a few more colorful oaths are mixed in then Bloody Hell will mean more when Brackenreid resorts to it. Maybe his wife can start campaigning to clean up his language. One of the funnier scenes in the 1st season was when George prevented William from taking the Lord's name in vain. I can see Brackenreid initially enlisting George's aid, but then losing his cool over some minor incident after the pressure builds up.

I think the Inspector is probably the best part of his show due to his being the comic relief in what could be a pretty serious show. While I love mysteries, they can become heavy and bogged down in details. When Brackenreid steps into a scene, it suddenly takes on a different air and it's always for the better.
And, I'm not sure if I'm a bit older than most of the people here or not, but as handsome as Yannick Bisson is (love those eyes!) it's Thomas Craig who has my attention. I find him to be a pretty handsome man and I love his scenes!
