What do you think of Thomas Craig as Inspector Brackenreid?

He plays the part so well doesn't he? He's a real tough talking Yorkshireman. Well casted.

I am a big fan too. So is Maureen Jennings, apparently. She has written at least two books using Thomas Craig as her inspiration. The main character is Detective Tom Tyler of the Shropshire Constabulary. The time period is WW II. I am reading the first book of the series: Season of Darkness, and thoroughly enjoying it. As with the Murdoch books, the details of daily life are very well detailed, and the pace of action keeps you turing the pages.

I think one of my summer activities will be trying to actually read some of Ms. Jennings' works, since I enjoy her tv shows so much.

The Murdoch Mysteries ones are almost entirely unrelated to the show: I think the only connection is they are set in the same time period. You won't recognize any of the characters. I haven't seen the movies based on the books, but I hear they are a step or two closer to the style of the TV show.

I've heard that the books are really dissimilar, however since Maureen Jennings is a consultant on both MM and Bomb Girls (another historical show) I'm thinking I may enjoy her writing style. At least I'll found out if I do

At least I'll found out if I do I'd also really like to see her comment more on Staircase to Heaven (an MM ep she wrote). In it William was supposed to get a "divine vision" of Heaven...but I don't understand when he got it or what he saw. Or what was up with all the card-dealing.

Hmm, that sounds interesting. Probably deals with a lot of symbolism, I'm assuming? What season does it occur in?

Hmm, that sounds interesting. Probably deals with a lot of symbolism, I'm assuming? What season does it occur in? Near the end of Season 5, the Year of Julia Absconditus. The concept is really cool: Emily is part of a "flatliners" society exploring the boundary between life and death. This was actually more in character for Emily than the whole George romance thing. Anyway, without spoiling too much, William gets a shot at testing the boundary himself. I think it was a good episode for that season because William was probably feeling a maximum amount of alienation and godlessness at that point, too.
