Well, the end is near for season five. I am a sad puppy. I will miss Murdoch very much while I wait for S6 to start. I heard CBC is re-airing S5 in September? I guess I will re-watch hehe. Anyhoo, I heard Constable Higgins (the actor not his character LOL) is appearing in a show called Coppers. I read this over at the imb message board for MM. Has anyone watched this show? I guess it's set around 1860s??? I heard it's on Showcase but we don't get that channel. Dose it air on a "free" channel? We have the basic satellite tv package through Bell since the only show I watch is MM and hubby only watches sports.

I saw the first episode of "Copper" on BBC America last week, but I didn't watch the 2nd episode last Sunday. That is true that Lachlan Murdoch (constable Higgins in MM) is part of the show but in the first episode it was just a glimpse. I don't think I will watch more of the show as it is a bit too dark for me but it is beautifully done so you should try it to make your own opinion. Enjoy the finale episode of the season tonight and I can't wait to read your comments as usual

I've watched the 1st two episodes. Lachlan is in both. I think he'll be in all the episodes but so far his part is small. He plays a clerk to a wealthy politician. It's filmed in Toronto so there are lots of Canadian actors in it. So far I've spotted I think 5 from MM. The guy who was Dr. Birkens in The Glass Ceiling is the wealthy politician, the guy who was Barclay Blake in Dinosaur Fever is another wealthy guy, the guy who was Mr. Caruso in Dead End Street plays a sort of rancher/farmer character and the guy who was the German brewmaster in Rich Boy, Poor Boy played an engraver. It's about a very poor, immigrant district of New York City called Five Points, right at the end of the Civil War (1864). The NYC police force was brand new and the first in the U.S. That means they are still almost like a loose band of militia and it remains to be seen if they will become corrupted by the wealthy and powerful and/or the criminal underworld. The detective protagonist is an Irish Catholic. In the 2nd episode he visits a nun who was his teacher. That reminded me of Murdoch. It's much more violent and gritty than MM but that is more appropriate for the place in which it's set. It shows much more corruption and the plots seem to be more connected from one episode to the next than MM.

Oh and it's just called Copper, no "s."

I'm so glad to hear that. I'll have to look through the TV menu for this show. I have this sinking feeling though it's not on a network we get.

Yeah, it's not as endearing as MM but I do think it's good. It's not as enjoyable to watch for me but still interesting and intriguing. I think it's on Showtime in Canada. If that's like Showtime in the U.S. It's a premium cable channel. We don't get it.

I gave it a watch last night, but wound up switching to a MM re-run. It's a good show, but not for me. It seems to be a continuing storyline. I prefer cases to be wrapped up each episode instead, which is why I enjoy MM, Murder, She Wrote, Columbo, Poirot, etc. I'm not a soap opera person--not that it's a soap opera, but I like to jump in and watch without having to know the backstory.

Yeah, there's a case each episode that is self contained but there are other elements that carry over from previous episodes. MM does have a little of that but I agree that Copper is more that way.
