Just to say hello to everyone.
I hail from England and am an avid fan of the Murdoch series. In fact I love anything dealing with early policing worldwide. My wife discovered Murdoch whilst visiting her cousin in Canada last year and bought the first series on DVD hoping that I would enjoy it. Needless to say I am hooked. We have so far worked our way up to series 4.
Wonder if anyone else shares my fascination with pre-C20th policing? No doubt people have seen “The Raven” with John Cusack, based around the life of Edgar Allan Poe. At present over here in the U.K. we have a new weekly TV series called “Ripper Street”, set in the aftermath of the Ripper murders; very good but extremely violent. If you don’t like that sort of thing I warn you don’t watch. Recently came across a reference to a U.S. series “Copper” – don’t know if anyone has seen it?. Also a French drama based upon the Nicolas La Floch novels of Jean-François Parot (recommend) dealing with the exploits of a French officer in the years before the Revolution. Only available on DVD without subtitles unfortunately.

Hi Harmerbeck, yes I too enjoy things involved with crime pre 20th century. The recent Ripper street was good as was Garrow's law. Murdoch mysteries is by far the best that has come out of Canada.

Welcome! I'm a history buff, but not especially in police history. But I'm always interested in learning.
