...eh. I'll readily admit I was rooting for Gemily when he kissed her in "The Cloud of Doom", but the writers just played that very well. C:

It just struck me that the George/Emily relationship obstacle is mirroring Jilliam.
Julia was afraid William wouldn't marry her - or worse string her along and turn her into an old maid without marrying her - so she she took matters into her own hands. She broke it off and "gave William his freedom".
George was afraid Emily was out of his league, and he would lose her to someone higher class, more handsome, more wealthy, etc. - so he took matters into his own hands. He broke it off with Emily and gave her the freedom to choose someone "better" than him.
If George keeps following this route, he'll end up marrying for the sake of being married, and then his marriage will collapse while he and Emily make puppy eyes at each other over the corpse table. At least it would be easier for George to get a divorce.
