I'd like to see...
Julia rescues William for a change, particularly in the shipwreck opening episode. I think it's very possible that Julia is a stronger swimmer than William since she spent so much time at the rowing club with the country club boys. She's very athletic for a woman of her day and many people could not swim in those days, but we know that she can. I think it's possible that William is not a strong swimmer given that his mother drowned. He may have always been afraid of the water due to her death in it. So he may not know how to swim or be very nervous in the water. I think it would be interesting if there's a child whose parents both died in the event and Julia takes the child in, eventually adopting him/her with William after they marry. She and William begin to raise the child together, even though they aren't yet married at the beginning of S7 and, of course, William doesn't actually live with Julia yet. He could still come over for dinner every night, read the child stories (sort of like he did with Alwyn in S2) and they could begin to form a family before they're technically married. Perhaps they even invite the Brackenreid's over to introduce their boys to the child and we see the two families together. This plot would take place over the course of S7.
I'd like to Julia have a sort of morbid fascination with Gillies' behavior and obsession with diagnosing his syndrome, much like Dr. Roberts did with Harlan Orgill ("Jack the Ripper" in Snakes and Ladders). I think that would be an interesting way to bring Gillies back for his final appearance. I think more than one more time would be too much. This would make William furious in fear for her safety. She could go to the prison to study him in the days before he hangs, and feel protected by the prison guards standing right outside. But then Gillies escapes again. He could take Julia hostage, but that would be too much like abducting her in Murdoch in Toyland. Perhaps he takes something, an important piece of evidence in the case William is working on, causing even more tension between him and Julia. Or it could be something of significance to Julia (something her mother left her) that she's determined to get back from him.
I'd like to see Iris Bajali, the Egyptian archaeologist, return. She was supposed to have gone to the Mayan ruins at Chichen Itza in Mexico. It would be fun if a case somehow brought William there and he runs into Iris. I liked her character, so I just think it would be interesting for her to help William with a case related to the ancient ruins. It would be funny if it turned out to be Sally Pendrick doing nefarious stuff there (like trying to steal ancient relics) while hiding out in Mexico to escape both the Canadian and American authorities.
I'd like to see Tesla again since it's been awhile since he's appeared (not since S3). There has been some discussion about an ep. involving Marconi because of the year. It might be possible to work Tesla into an ep. involving Marconi, as well. From wiki: "In 1900, Tesla was granted patents for a "system of transmitting electrical energy" and "an electrical transmitter". When Guglielmo Marconi made his famous first ever transatlantic radio transmission in 1901, Tesla quipped that it was done with 17 Tesla patents. This was the beginning of years of patent battles over radio with Tesla's patents being upheld in 1903, followed by a reverse decision in favor of Marconi in 1904. In 1943, a Supreme Court of the United States decision restored the prior patents of Tesla, Oliver Lodge, and John Stone. The court declared that their decision had no bearing on Marconi's claim as the first to achieve radio transmission, just that since Marconi's claim to certain patents were questionable, he could not claim infringement on those same patents (there are claims the high court was trying to nullify a World War I claim against the U.S. government by the Marconi Company via simply restoring Tesla's prior patent)."
I want William to return to Nova Scotia to see his boyhood home (maybe to show Julia) and meet L.M. Montgomery (the author of Anne of Green Gables who worked at a newspaper in Halifax in 1901). Perhaps in the course of her research for her writing she has stumbled on a criminal case and William and Julia try to help her solve it. If this were to happen after he and Julia are married and taking care of the child, it could be used as the seed of the idea for LMM's quintessential Canadian classic, Anne of Green Gables (who was an orphan taken in by a brother and sister). It is not totally clear where LMM came up with the idea, although there are a few possibilites. She didn't start writing it until 1905, but the idea had been germinating for some time. It would be a cool idea to pretend it was William and Julia's adoption that was one of the influences. Esp. if they adopt a little girl with red hair.
I still want a Murdoch at the Ballet episode. Perhaps Julia takes William to a performance after they're engaged, and they run into her father there. While getting acquainted, during intermission, a murder takes place backstage and the performance is over, but no one can leave the theatre. Everyone must be questioned. It could be an awkward way to meet Mr. Ogden, which would probably be awkward anyway for William.
Someone in the FB MM board suggested this idea, which I like. "I'd like to see an episode loosely based on The Prince and The Pauper where another man - an underworld criminal - is the image of Murdoch. He finds out as much as he can about our William and goes about stealing his identity while he's out of town for some reason. Havoc ensues and William returns on hearing about it to find himself under arrest. He evades arrest and sets about finding the truth about the other man in an attempt to clear his name. But, of course, he has to find him first. I'd call it Murdoch v Murdoch." I'd like one where William has a look alike who trades places with him. It's often done and can be a little cheesy, but it can be fun if done well, too. Perhaps instead of being his nemesis, they could team up to disrupt a criminal plot, more like The Parent Trap.
I've been thinking of what wild theories George might have in S7. We know there will be a zombie ep. which will probably include some wild ideas from George. I'd kind of like to see him work with the animal tracker again and think he sees a yeti/Sasquatch/Big Foot. And then Jimmy (and William and Thomas) could try to talk some sense into him, but he's determined he saw one. Of course, Emily would support his theory and they'd try to track it down in the woods themselves. I'd like to see one where George and Henry are stationed at a Natural History museum, and they begin to believe the exhibits have come to life, a la Night at the Museum. Then a murder could truly happen in one of the exhibits and they have to overcome their fears to solve it together because William is away. This could maybe be the second plot in the same ep where William and Julia are in NS.
I'd like to see more of Margaret and Thomas and maybe even their older son. He could start coming to the station to watch his father at work. He could be interested in police work as a career and then become more interested in William's work than Thomas', causing Thomas to be jealous. Maybe Julia could enlist Margaret's help with the child she has taken in, too.
I'd like to see some conflict that last more than half an episode btwn George and Emily. Their conflicts get resolved too quickly and their relationship is still lacking in a spark because of it. Since it's unlikely we'll see Ruby again, although I want to, I'd like to see Edna Garrison (the advocate for the humane treatment of animals in Power) show up again to check on her dog (who is now George's dog). I'd also be interested in seeing Tess actually be working at a private detective agency. She and George could cross paths on a case that both the constabulary and the detective agency are investigating. They could end up arguing over who has the right to pursue the case.
These are just some random thoughts. Any ideas you'd like to share?
