It has been renamed 'The Artful Detective' for some bizarre reason! It can be seen on Ovation Television, Saturdays at 8pm. The first series kicked of on 27th July. Here's the article on Maureen's website

Yep, it's a very small arts themed channel. They don't play anything but art related content, so it's not as weird as it might seem. I still think it's unnecessary to change it and that name doesn't fit the show. It's also an odd channel to air it on because the show is about science and history, but not art (except in a couple of eps). But I'm glad it's airing here. I'll be VERY surprised if it gets many viewers though because it's SUCH a small channel that many people don't have and many who do have it haven't heard of the channel.

I still think it's unnecessary to change it and that name doesn't fit the show. I don't understand that either. They've bought the rights to air it so it's not like they've got to change it for copyright. I think it's weird airing on such a small channel, after the success they've had in Canada with Murdoch I thought a bigger channel would want to take a shot at airing it.

Seems like a waste to me, why not put it on prime time tv?

The major U.S. networks (NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX) would never think it would do well on their stations. It wouldn't fit their stations at all. Nevermind that they don't ever air international TV shows. They'll make their own version of shows that are popular internationally, but they don't air content from other countries. So that would never happen. Even most cable channels don't air international content. The best station to air MM in the U.S. would be PBS (public television), which did air S1 in a few of their markets. But they didn't continue to air it after that. This would have been in 2008 or 2009, before period drama became really hot. PBS airs most of the British programming that airs in the U.S. (aside from BBC America) and they have always aired a lot of period dramas, including a few Canadian TV shows. Given the popularity of period dramas that currently air on PBS (Downton Abbey, Call the Midwife, Mr. Selfridge) and British mystery shows, I think MM would do VERY well for them right now. I don't understand why they don't snatch it up.

I am an American. I have just started watching Murdoch Mysteries. I love the show. I think that it would go over in the US. The dtation that should show it is Hallmark Movie Channel. It could make it.

I've just started watching MM in the US, and I have no idea why Ovation renamed it. I have watched the series through Season 6 on Acorn TV, but they don't have any season 7 episodes, and reading all the posts about the new episodes is making me crazy!
