A couple months ago I made some efforts to get steampunk community bloggers to review Murdoch Mysteries. One guy (the "speculative scholar"/"steampunk scholar") asked me to try my hand at writing a review. Here's my stab at it (you will recognize many of my opinions from my posts here): steampunkscholar.blogspot.com/2014/05/murdoch-mysteries-guest-post.htmlThe only supplementary material I provided was a couple of the funnier vids (hi, qumquat!). Mike Perschon, the Blog Maestro, chose all the illustrative pictures, and he made some really inspired choices. I appreciate the time he put in to write an intro and select the pictures. Also he has a very interesting thesis about Steampunk as an aesthetic, which I totally buy into: steampunkscholar.blogspot.com/p/aesthetic-101.htmlPs. Weee I got some ReTweet action from @cbcmurdoch Now I'm considering starting a cult where people use a Sacred Homburg symbol to recognize each other.

Very well written, snacky! Thank you for sharing! My favorite quote: "American TV is sick. Murdoch Mysteries is the cure. "

Snacky I read the review Thursday or Friday after finding the link in an MM Twitter message. I came here this morning to ask if you wrote it but found your post here that confirms my thoughts. It's interesting that a person's 'voice' can be recognized even when you only know them through their writing. You also confirmed my suspicions that you are a hard core Murdoch Mysteries fan....in the absolute best possible way. Wonderful review....you just nailed it! And yes "Murdoch Mysteries" replied said they loved it too!! No doubt your review was emailed to everyone connected to the show as it is proof positive that all their hard work and "vision" is not lost on people who maybe just don't get it (think award show judges). I know all the words you used and I've thought most of the thoughts at one point or another but I could never, not in a million years, have brought them together as you did. Great job

The words probably sound familiar because I worked out most of my thoughts here. I know my views don't represent everyone's though, so I hope other people - particularly Americans - will consider writing their own reviews. Who knows - maybe there is some media reviewer out there who considered reviewing MM but is overwhelmed by the thought of 7 seasons. You could give them a kick start! I certainly didn't cover everything, either. Last night I was watching some earlier episodes which reminded me of how William's moral judgments have become more nuanced over time. He's less likely to feel satisfied he sent the bad guy to the noose and more tolerant of how Brackenreid gets the job done. It will be interesting to see when that nuance actually becomes "compromise" for him.

I happened to notice that Peter Mitchell (showrunner) also retweeted your review in his twitter and he commented that the review was spot on. (or something to that affect) Yay!!! You took it to the TOP snacky!!

You took it to the TOP snacky!! Wa, I'll have to go check it out. I don't use twitter myself - I have to search the web site. But you know who didn't retweet? Ovation. If my goal was to get MM some notice outside of Canada, I didn't get very far. :/ (Ovation is probably sick of me bagging on their marketing fails, lol).

I don't use twitter either but you can read them via the twitter feed on the MM Facebook site---if you are so inclined. You never know who might have seen your review by now or where it might still end up.....

snacky, you are the boss! Way to go! Ovation just needs to hire you for their marketing, lol. If they did, I would have way less time to fuss around on forums. >.> I'm still really grouchy about Ovation, though. The U.S. has seriously paltry offerings in TV that's both family friendly and still interesting for young (not particularly religious) people. I've never had to resort to *buying* TV shows before - but what else is there for both Mom and me to watch? There was a clear gap in American TV offerings for Murdoch Mysteries to fill. While Ovation wasn't in the best place to fill it, they are the ones that took the baton. Shame on them for dropping it. Someone needs to open the MM door for American viewers soon, but I doubt it will be Ovation.

Snacky, that MM review is epic!! You nailed it. I hope it nets a US network pickup...I agree that there needs to be an infusion of greater depth in programming. Sure, we watch CSI, Criminal Minds, Castle, Bones, Law & Order, but if I miss an episode, meh, who cares? Murdoch, on the other hand, gets my undivided attention and anticipation.
