If there are any Canadians out there (or simply someone well-versed in Canadian weather) maybe you can help settle an issue. My dad and I laughingly refer to the "perpetual summer of Toronto" as seen on Murdoch. It's always gorgeous weather there! Now, obviously it depends on the season of the year in which they are shooting, but Sue Thomas F.B.Eye was also shot in Canada, but it was always snowing there! We call this the "eternal winter of D.C." Why the difference? Does it depend on when the seasons air? And any idea why they haven't attempted a winter episode yet? -at least through Season 4? Just a curious thought I've had.

You've picked up on a very clear trend. MM is shot May through late October (judging by the colour of the leaves). Sue Thomas FBI was winter, Rookie Blue (don't know if you get it) is filmed all in the winter and Flashpoint was late winter into early summer. They were all shot primarily in Toronto. I don't know for sure, but I suspect that it has something to do with permits for filming on Toronto streets. All these shows want downtown locations which messes up traffic more than it already is. The joke here is that we have 2 seasons...winter and construction. It would be very hard to work around it. Remember too, that most of MM's location shoots are generally outside Toronto so they have the luxury of filming in nicer weather. It's only the regular sets that are in the city. They did do 1 'winter' episode..."20th Century Murdoch". It was supposed to be New Year's Eve, 1899 but I wouldn't be surprised if they filmed it in September. All the snow in that episode looked kind of fake to me, ha ha!

Or does it lurch between sweltering and freezing? I would really like to see some MM in the winter: feel-good Christmas episodes, caroling (since Yannick has now proved he has a good voice), hot coco, skating, cuddling...

Thanks, lovemondays! I have seen a few episodes of "Rookie Blue" but never really noticed the weather there...but there definitely seemed to be an obvious difference between MM and STFBEye. It makes sense to film during the summer...although as you pointed out, that's the perfect time for construction too! I lived in the Midwest for a while, and absolutely nothing got built during the winters! Looking forward to "20th Century Murdoch," even if the snow is fake.

We lurch between about 21F in January to 80+F in the summer. We usually need coats and gloves from Nov to mid March then the layers start peeling off. The last couple of days have been summer gorgeous and we have the A/C on. Last weekend, jeans and long sleeves. What can I say? It's Canada!!

I lived in England for a while, and I remember being pleasantly surprised by the weather there (compared to New York). But if I went back today I'd probably find it intolerably chilly! XD Do you have mosquitoes?

That actually doesn't sound too bad; during my two winters in the Midwest the average January temp was -20F! We even had a freak ice storm in April one time...much like snacky, I prefer the mild West Coast seasons

Make no mistake, it can get really cold with the wind chill. This past winter was one of the worst in my memory. Overall the weather in Toronto is similar to Chicago. Both cities have one of the Great Lakes to influence overall jet stream impact. I would be perfectly happy to only have 2 weeks of cold and snow right at Christmas time, then let it warm up a bit. Just so long as it doesn't always look like November. That is a seriously ugly month.
Did you know that the southern tip of Ontario, across the river from Detroit, is further south than the California-Oregon border?
Snacky, we have mosquitoes, gnats, flies, grasshoppers, butterflies, moths...lol!

Huh, I never realized that about Ontario. I definitely agree with the two weeks of snow at Christmas...that would be perfect, even here in sunny California!

Dear MM Powers That Be, please give me a Christmas episode with snow that I can experience vicariously. Cuddling and coco would be a sweet bonus.

Oh man, I've praying for a MM Christmas episode! I think the series "Monk" had a Christmas episode for every season. Can't MM just have one?!

Every show with even minor Christian shadings has to do a riff on The Christmas Carol! Of course, MM can always be different and do Twas the Night Before Christmas or The Nutcracker instead. Either way, George getting bonked over the head with a some humorous object will probably be involved.

Haha, they wouldn't have to do anything elaborate...I'd be happy with just a passing mention of the holiday! Although I'd be even more happy with a holiday-centered episode featuring my favorite constable

Although I'd be even more happy with a holiday-centered episode featuring my favorite constable George would be so cute at Christmas! I bet he would play Santa for orphans! I bet he would collect toys! I bet he would take Emily for some scrumptious new Christmas treat. The question is...would he dare to ask Emily to sit on his lap?

Oh my goodness! I'm now officially in love with the idea of George-Christmas episode! Maybe they could even do a slight playoff on "It's a Wonderful Life" which features another wonderful George.
