Also, I could swear there was some point in time that Emily said she was from a working class family and was in fact not wealthy like Julia. Obviously Emily would have still had to come from a fairly well to do family or have a highly respected father or something like that in order to have the connections to become a doctor. Unless they had scholarships back then? The only reason Emily had a membership to the club was because of her fiance. Oh wait! That's the reason I thought she wasn't wealthy. Doesn't her ex say something like, "You should be thanking me for elevating your status!" But I don't like them together either. She's always been too cold for me. She knows she's cold. That's the reason she became a coroner. I don't recall Emily ever mentioning lower class origins. The fact she belongs to clubs and has high class friends suggests she was from the upper class. If she owed her class status to her previous fiance, then she would have had stronger reasons to have an affinity for George: this should have been explained at some point during the show!!!!!! I think the writer's either changed their mind on that story line or totally dropped the ball. I doubt there were scholarships for women. I'll have to watch hockey night in canada again...great. No surprise that it was harper's idea. We know virtually nothing about her background besides that she was engaged and that she spent a lot of time with the medical boys honing her smoke ring abilities. Every other main/secondary character we have at least some idea about their past/families. For instance, Henry has a mother that lives about an hour away and she grew up in the gaspe so knew french and that's why he can understand it too. We can assume his father is dead or at least out of the picture since he never gets mentioned. But Emily who is a main character is still a very mysterious/shady person 3 seasons later! Likely something bad happened and it made her the way she is today (fascinated with the macabre) and not wanting to discuss personal matters much. Kind of like Murdoch actually. I bet if they explained why she is so closed off then we the audience would sympathize with her more and take more of a liking to the character.

I already like her character, especially because she is macabre! The writers might be struggling over the idea that keeping her background mysterious makes her more macabre. But giving her a background would have made her more accessible, which would have made it easier to ship her. But then she would be just another female character, a knock-off Julia, and boring. So I vote for keeping her mysterious and macabre. Ps. We also know Henry grew up around a piano shop, is quite the ladies' man, hates busywork, and secretly wants to be a genius, too.

And then when she turns out to be a serial killer herself, no one will be surprised. Hmm, I guess that means his father owned the shop. I wonder if he was killed in a robbery and that's why Henry decided to become a cop?

Mary Edwards Walker worked her way through school: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Edwards_WalkerThis is what Jerome says exactly in Murdoch Night in Canada..."I offered to bring a lowly, working class girl up to my station." So if she doesn't have much of an attachment to George then I guess they just aren't compatible for other reasons. Which I always thought. It's funny that the actor is now her husband irl.

I had forgotten what a stuffed shirt Jerome was; however, he really did sum up the reality of the attitude of the gentry toward the working class. Somehow it has never been a particular issue between William and Julia, probably because he is so highly respected. Even the Eugenics Society, a large group of self-righteous toffs felt William had 'stock' worthy enough to join their lofty ranks. Also one could consider that Jerome's group of twenty-somethings haven't developed the maturity and tolerance of the slightly older crowd. I'm far more interested in finding a ship for George than for Emily. George is a teddy bear, with goggly eyes, a great sense of humour and a loyal, loving heart.

I didn't know that guy was Georgina's husband.
It's possible Jerome is so high class that Emily's upper middle class seems "working class" in comparison? The rise of industrial wealth combined with religious movements that stressed self-help and improvement. The upper class still had pretensions, but the self-made millionaires were busy busting those pretensions. One could certainly see why Emily took a pass on Jerome. XD
Same: George should be in a ship, Emily not so much.

I'm just going to have to watch "Murdoch Night in Canada" again. Ugh, hockey. I'm such a bad Canadian! Haha I know. Not my favourite episode. The only time I can stand watching entire hockey games is during the Olympics because we usually kick ass. And even though like half the Canadian team normally plays in America and with the American Olympic team members, it doesn't lessen our golden accomplishments right? I just watched the Emily/Jerome scenes and not the whole thing. Only took about 5 minutes.

Good to know. I'm only just starting Season 5 of my MM binge so I'll knuckle it out for that episode. I do like it when we kick anybody's ass .

Yes, but we're in the William thread, not a shipper thread. Our logger turned copper is a decent street hockey player.
